Tufts University Announces Launch of Online Master of Science in Computer Science in Collaboration with Noodle Partners

MEDFORD, Mass. and SOMERVILLE, Mass., Nov. 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Tufts University School of Engineering is collaborating with Noodle Partners, a leading online program manager (OPM), to launch a new online Master of Science in Computer Science degree program which is expected to get underway in Fall 2020.

The new online program will complement the School of Engineering's ground-based program, providing extra flexibility for students who are unable to spend time on campus. Students will attend virtual lectures and complete assignments through the university's learning management system, in tandem with other innovative online learning tools.

"Tufts is pleased to offer our interdisciplinary approach to learning to a broader community through our collaboration with Noodle Partners, a program that will increase access for qualified students to our outstanding teaching and research," said Jianmin Qu, dean of the School of Engineering at Tufts. "Our students benefit from working across disciplines that reflect a real-world need for computer science solutions and expertise."

Noodle Partners currently runs programs across the graduate space; Tufts is the first school of engineering with which Noodle Partners has inked a program collaboration.

"Noodle Partners is deeply committed to the success of students," said John Katzman, CEO of Noodle Partners. "We are very clearly centered around creating more opportunities for access for qualified students, without compromising on quality or delivery whatsoever."

Computer science has become one of the most popular undergraduate majors at Tufts, and the School of Engineering's student body includes many first-generation college students and first-time computer science students. Nearly 30 percent of its students are women, which is above the national average for engineering schools, and more than 25 percent of the school's faculty are women, including Computer Science Department Chair Kathleen Fisher.

Tufts has a first-year student retention rate of 96 percent and zero net attrition among Engineering students.
