Missouri American Water Donating Land to Monarch Fire Protection District

Missouri American Water is donating more than 3.2 acres of land to the Monarch Fire Protection District, with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the change of ownership to be held on Friday, November 22. In addition to the donated land, Monarch will be given license to use an additional 1.9 adjacent acres, for a total of more than five acres of use.

The land to be donated is located at 911 John Pellet Ct. in Chesterfield, next door to Missouri American Water’s Central Treatment Plant, and is already the site of a Monarch training facility. The fire protection district has leased the land from Missouri American Water for $100 annually since 2001.

“Missouri American Water is pleased to build on our collaborative partnership with the Monarch Fire Protection District by donating this land to better accommodate their training needs,” said Debbie Dewey, President of Missouri American Water. “There’s a lot of work and necessary investment that goes into ensuring the brave fire fighters in our service area have access to the life-saving water they need when an emergency strikes, from regularly exercising hydrants to replacing or extending the useful life of aging water mains, storage tanks, and treatment plants. This is just one more way we can support the important fire protection service Monarch provides to our customers.”

The Monarch Fire Protection District covers more than 62 square miles and services more than 60,000 people, meaning the donation will benefit much of St. Louis County.

“The Monarch Fire Protection District is thrilled to receive this donation by Missouri American Water, and we look forward to continuing a great relationship with our Howard Bend neighbors,” said Robin Harris, President of the Monarch Fire Protection Board. “Missouri American Water’s original leasing of the land to Monarch helped provide advanced training for firefighting and rescue operations. Owning the land upon which our training center sits allows Monarch to expand the facility to encompass fire, rescue and EMS training. Through the generosity of Missouri American Water, Monarch will better provide enhanced training for our life-saving personnel, keeping them ready for any emergency.”
