The Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation Awards Grants Totaling More Than $1.7 Million to Local Non-Profits

Today, The Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation is celebrating its 2019 awardees who earned 51 grants totaling $1,719,000. The grants include sixteen Power Grants and one Community Power Grant to area organizations supporting new or continued innovative initiatives making a lasting impact for the people and communities in the Dayton Region.

This year, the DP&L Foundation is introducing its first Community Power Grant. This new grant is intended to “move the needle” on a DP&L Foundation Board selected community priority. It is a one-time, significant grant to energize a community priority or help solve a community issue in the DP&L 24-county service territory.

Our grantees' hard work, dedication, and passion drive community building, making the Dayton Region a great place to live, work and play.”

Collectively, these projects will transform the landscape of the Dayton Region – attracting businesses, fueling growth, and improving the quality of life. In the last seven years, The DP&L Foundation has awarded 82 Power Grants and one Community Power Grant totaling more than $6.2 million to local, community partner organizations.

The recipient of the 2019 DP&L Foundation Community Power Grant is:

Omega Community Development Corporation - the $200,000 Community Power Grant brings our total grants awarded for the Hope Center to $415,000. This grant provides the final funding to ignite the building of The Hope Center for Families which will assist in education, work training and health & wellness support for west Dayton.

The twelve recipients of the 2019 Year-end DP&L Foundation Power Grants are:

American Red Cross Dayton Chapter - $50,000 power grant to support the Prepare, Respond, Recover, emergency response and disaster relief training and programs, including the Home Fire Campaign.

Boonshoft Museum of Discovery / Dayton Museum of Natural History - $50,000 to power science education with improved educational content and programming in the Science Theatre and “Do Lab” designed for students, teachers and families.

Daybreak - $50,000 in support of the Opportunity Zone employment training recovery model to break the cycle of homelessness and the build out of a new drop-in engagement center for homeless young adults.

Dayton Art Institute - $125,000 to the Centennial Capital Campaign to shine light on the beautiful exterior of the museum and Historic Hillside. Additionally, the grant supports the current exhibit, Yoshitoshi, as well as educational programs.

Dayton Children’s Hospital – $75,000 funding a partnership to power a community-wide youth mental health awareness education program for children.

Goodwill Easter Seals - $30,000, the first of a multi-year ask to build a Trotwood Community Services Center to serve west Dayton with skills training, and a variety of life-changing services including developmental disability services.

Sinclair Community College - $60,000 continuing support of the City Connect Student Services Program and Diversity & Inclusion programming for students, faculty and staff.

United Way of Greater Dayton - $115,000 upholding more than 100 years of support for education, income and health programs provided to the community through the LIVE UNITED Fund.

University of Dayton - $50,000 to continue funding the University of Dayton Statehouse Civic Scholars and DC Flyers Student Intern Programs, supporting interns since 2014.

Victoria Theatre Association - $85,000 to support operations and grow the performing and visual arts education and enrichment programming at the Arts Annex.

Wright State University - $75,000 to the Engineering Student Success and Workforce Development Programs; Business Degree Completion Programs; and lighting projects in Wright State’s new Archives Building.

YWCA Dayton - $50,000 funding the Girls LEAD education programs and continued support for the domestic violence shelter renovations.
