New Statistics on How COVID-19 is Affecting Travel Nursing

LANCASTER, Pa., April 29, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The travel nurse industry is stepping up to fill the desperate need for nurses during the COVID-19 crisis. This week new data from TravelNurseSource.com reveals just how much travel nurse specialties are being affected by COVID-19.

The findings showed that demand for certain travel nursing specialties increased drastically from February 2020 to March 2020 when compared to normal industry trends. For example: 

    --  ICU/Critical Care - increased by 59%
    --  RNFA - increased by 64%
    --  ER/Trauma - increased by 62%
    --  Med/Surg - increased by 14%

Meanwhile, the following specialties saw a decrease in job demand during the same time frame:

    --  Pain Management - decreased by 49%
    --  PICU - decreased by 29%
    --  Pediatrics - decreased by 28%
    --  OR - decreased by 16%

While many healthcare workers expected some of these specialties to increase or decrease during a virus outbreak such as COVID-19, the data is still eye-opening. It calls attention to the areas and specialties that are most needed during a situation such as this.

The data also exposed the most hard-hit areas and locations where travel nurses are needed the most. For example, the following locations had the largest increase in demand from February 2020 to March 2020 when compared to normal industry trends.

    --  Washington - increased by 93%
    --  Rhode Island - increased by 87%
    --  Massachusetts - increased by 79%
    --  South Dakota - increased by 76%
    --  New Jersey - increased by 63%
    --  New York - increased by 61%
