Photonis continues to supply Finnish Senop Oy with its flagship product: 4G image intensifier tube
Monday, June 20, 2022 - Photonis, a long-term supplier of the Finnish Senop Oy (the developer and provider of advanced optronic solutions for defence), is proud to continue supplying Senop with state-of-the-art 4G image intensifier tubes.
The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) signed a contract with Senop autumn 2020, with a total value of more than 13 million euros, including a 209-million-euro option for the next five years. The contact includes image intensifiers, observation and surveillance systems and laser aiming devices. In 2021, Photonis was selected by Senop to supply a first lot of 4G image intensifiers with white phosphor screen for Senop EVA 40 NVGs. That first contract has been followed by a second large quantity order after the announcement in April 2022 by the Finnish Government of an increase of the defence budget by a total of approximately €2.2 billion.
With Senop EVA 40 NVGs the FDF is one of the latest European armed forces having adopted 4G image intensifier tubes to improve night vision capabilities, following decades of experience with in-service night vision devices using Photonis XD-4 tubes.
The 4G technology is perfectly suited to the stringent requirements of night combat operations. It enables operators to get the best possible image and range in rapidly changing light conditions.
This technology has become the standard in all European programs without exception. With the broader availability of night vision devices in general, the challenge is to have the best performance image intensifiers and systems that are always more powerful than those of the opposing forces and which, in particular, allow users to see better and further away than the enemy.
