Solar Ship To Launch Arctic-Africa Scholarship Fund

Today, Solar Ship announced it will create a scholarship for Arctic partners to travel to Africa and learn how to operate electric airships.

Solar Ship Inc., a world leader in solar electric airships, sponsors a training program with a focus on adjusting to climate change.

Solar Ship’s Vice President of Africa Markets, Godbless Jonathan Lema: “When I was forced to leave Tanzania under threat of violence and political persecution, I had the privilege of moving to Canada. Upon arrival, I approached Solar Ship as a partner. Solar Ship embraced my ideas for a Canada-Africa collaboration, working with Indigenous cultures to overcome the challenges of climate change.

The shocking thing, as a Tanzanian coming to Canada, was to see the situation with Indigenous people. Growing up in Tanzania, we held Canada up as the greatest country in the world for quality of life. It broke my heart to see the challenges faced by Indigenous people. In response, I am announcing the creation of a scholarship fund inviting Northern communities to work with African communities to save lives, protect ecosystems and shift to the sustainable electric economy.

I want to say thanks to Canada for inviting me and my family to come to this beautiful country. It took me some time to learn what Canada does well and where I, as an entrepreneur and philanthropist, can contribute to Canada. We are so advanced in aerospace and electric technologies in Canada. But many Canadians are in pain. I say to my Indigenous brothers and sisters – brainpower is your greatest natural resource. We Africans will learn to master the technologies of the future with you and together we will become the brokers of hope for the next generation.”

Solar Ship’s CEO, Jay Godsall: “I would like to thank Mr. Lema for leading this initiative. Solar Ship has been working with Indigenous communities since our inception and this represents a great step in advancing our goals for investing in Indigenous brainpower.”
