CBRN DETECTION: PORTABLE

ChemPro®100 Handheld Chemical Detector

The ChemPro®100 is a handheld chemical detector initially developed for detecting CWA and TIC vapors and gases in military, safety and security applications. ChemPro®100 is multisensor technology device employing combination of Environics-patented open-loop ion mobility spectrometry and metal oxide semiconductor gas sensors, temperature and humidity sensors. Furthermore, it utilizes advanced fuzzy logic-algorithm for pattern recognition algorithm.

As is typical for chemical detectors, the detection and identification performance is predominantly given in the application specific library. For ChemPro®100 several libraries are available, those are, for example, CWA, TIC, First Responder (combination of CWA and TIC) and VOC. Furthermore, excellent feature of ChemPro®100 is that these libraries are easily selectable in the user interface.

ChemPro®100i Improved Chemical Detector

ChemPro®100i offers the same possibility as the ChemPro100 Basic, to meet different type of threats in the whole field of C, B and RN protection. ChemPro® CBRN - Concept gives the user an opportunity to respond to any CBRN related threat with only one piece of equipment: ChemPro®. Utilizing 'Plug and Play' feature, user turns the Chemical Detector into a real multi purpose detector.

ID100 - Portable FTIR Gas Analyzer

The ID100 is the first truly portable FTIR gas analyzer in the world. The lightweight analyzer module is located in durable Teflon coated backpack. The ID100 analyzer houses a Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, Rhodium-Gold coated sample cell and signal processing electronics. The sample gas is extracted into the sample cell with a pistol-type probe. Hence no sample preparation is needed.

The ID100 is designed for on-site measurements of different compounds (both organic & inorganic) at low concentrations in ambient air. Typical usage areas include industrial hygiene and emergency response situations. Analysis results are displayed on screen of a military grade PDA.

ChemPro - Reader Module

The ChemPro Reader Module adds new functionality in the form of handheld biological detection. The optional accessory is intended for reading commercial immunoassay tests applying gold- or fluorescence-labelled antibodies. The device contains a digital camera with an image recognization algorithm and LEDs as light sources. The ChemPro100 provides the Reader Module with power, a processor, a user interface and a display. The reader lid can be changed according to the test cartridge used. The Reader Module is compatible with biodefence field test kits like ENVI Assay System by Environics and RAMP® by Response Biomedical Corp.

Depending on the reading mode, the test cartridge is inserted into the Reader Module straight after applying a sample or after a specified incubation time. The Reader provides the user with qualitative test results (Positive/Negative) which are stored in the device memory.

ChemPro - Radiation Detector Module

ChemPro100 - Radiation Detector Module The ChemPro Radiation Detector Module enables the ChemPro to detect traces of radiation in addition to the CWA/TIC/TIM detection capability it already has. The Radiation Detector Module uses a Plug and Play attachment to the ChemPro Handheld Chemical Detector, and becomes operational after the connection is made.

The ChemPro100 Radiation Detector provides fast and sensitive detection, a wide measurement range and dose rate and dose readings on a familiar and intuitive interface. All data are logged on the ChemPro100’s data logs for later inspection.

Protecting a subway network with related underground facilities is a well-known application of EnviScreen. The structure of the system as well as the type and amount of used sensors and other devices depends on the desired safety level requirements. With EnviScreen Safety System it is possible to cover all the potential safety threat related to subway network environment.

EnviScreen - Safety System for Ships

Environics' EnviScreen safety and environment control systems are designed for both military and civil applications. These systems are used to protect facilities such as airport, theatre or subway system as well as industrial area or facility. Systems are also applied as mobile systems for naval and vehicle applications.

Naval applications of EnviScreen are mostly related to military use. The purpose of these systems normally is to protect people on board as well as monitor the possible threat of Chemical Warfare Agents. In many cases the ship is also equipped with Radiological/Nuclear detectors and meteorological sensors. Ship system can be also integrated with the ship control system. This integration enables e.g. the control of ventilation and/or NBC filtration system of the ship.

EnviScreen - ChemProFX

Chemical detector ChemProFX is a continuously-operating detector to use in EnviScreen Safety Systems. It is based Environics’ ChemPro technology. Both Chemical Warfare Agent Detection and Toxic Industrial (TIC) detection are carried with the same detector unit.

The ChemProFX is the latest in state-of-the-art chemical detection and identification systems. ChemProFX a ultra fast first alarm/post attack unit for detection/monitoring of all kind harmful chemicals. It is designed to detect chemical warfare agents (CWAs) and toxic industrial compounds/materials (TICs/TIMs).

Bio100 Early Warning System

The Bio100 EWS is a continuously operating sensor designed to detect potentially harmful airborne biological agent releases. It operates as an early warning detector and is a key component of the EnviScreen CBRN (Chemical, Biological and Radiological/Nuclear) Monitoring System for high level of situational awareness and real-time consequence and emergency management.

The Bio100 EWS detects changes in concentration of active airborne biological particles with a diameter range of 1 to 10 microns including bacterial spores (e.g. B. anthracis), bacteria (e.g.Y. pestis), viruses (e.g. smallpox) and toxins (e.g. ricin). The device utilizes UV LED to collect fluorescence data and an optical particle counter to collect count and size data of airborne particulates, and all that information is assessed to provide a confirmatory alert. Response time can be adjusted from 30 seconds to 10 minutes depending on sensitivity required. Collection of a secondary sample for laboratory confirmation analysis is automatically initiated, when elevated levels of biological material are detected.

The Bio100 EWS is designed for personnel and property protection applications, including indoor air monitoring, area monitoring systems, building and subway safety systems, naval applications, reconnaissance and monitoring vehicles and mobile systems. The device requires no consumables for monitoring, and complete self-diagnostic system identifies needs for service and maintenance. Affordable price and reasonable operating costs make Bio100 EWS a cost-effective and economical biological detection approach.

EnviScreen - Master Module

EnviScreen Master Module enables the communication between the various systems, sensors, stations and EnviScreen system software. All the sensors/stations are connected to the one or more Master Modules that makes possible to create intelligent, modular and redundant sensor/station networks. And in the future it is easy to expand the existing system with more sensors/stations.

Master Module is to connect different type of sensors, e.g. chemical detectors, air flow sensors and radiation sensors to the system. Master Module can also operate independently. This means, for example, that in case of gas alarm, the ventilation can be shut down automatically even if the Control Center is not operating. This increases even more the systems redundancy of critical operations during the emergency.

BIOLOGICAL DETECTION

ENVI Assay System

ENVI Assay System contains sensitive and reliable rapid tests for presumptive analysis of unknown potential biological threats. ENVI Assay System Gold and ENVI Assay System FL tests are based on lateral flow immunoassay format utilizing BWA-specific, gold- or fluorescence-labelled antibodies, respectively. Currently, they include disposable tests for screening of environmental samples for the presence of ricin toxin, SEB, botulinum toxin, Bacillus anthracis and pox viruses (smallpox). The test procedures with a few operational steps require only minimal training and are easy to conduct in demanding working conditions: the unique work bench design of ENVI Assay System Gold makes handling of small test items even easier. Test results (Positive/Negative) are announced in 15 minutes.

ENVI Assay System FL tests are always used in combination with a ChemPro® Reader Module connected to a PC or to a ChemPro®100 Chemical Detector. Also in the case of ENVI Assay System Gold, the use of the Reader Module is highly recommended, since it enables long-term data storage and enhances reliability by reducing false interpretations for the visible test results.

ENVI Assay System products will be soon completed with new single-use tests: ENVI Assay System CWA Nerve Agent Test and Blood Agent Test will be launched in spring 2008. These chromatographic tests are based on chemical colour reactions and they are intended for rapid screening of air, surface and liquid samples in 15 – 20 minutes.

Bio200 BioAlarm System

The Bio200 BAS is a "Detect-To-Warn System". It is based on detecting the UV-fluorescence properties of organic particles. The system has been designed to minimize the false positive alarm rate caused by non-toxic fluorescent particles such as pollen and diesel exhaust.

The low false positive alarm rate is achieved by removing large particles such as pollen from the sample flow, and then dividing the sample into two size fractions for detection; coarse particles larger than 2 μm and fi ne particles smaller than 2 μm.

The detection is based on measuring the biological origin of the particles with a fluorescence method. In addition to this, certain relevant parameters from background particles smaller than 2 μm are measured. The alarm from the system is generated by an algorithm that collects and combines all the information.
