This procurement aims at developing critical appraisal tools (CATs) for the typical ecotoxicology studies normally available in the pesticide dossiers. It should focus on those studies where a standard guideline is not available. The CATs should include specific criteria enabling the evaluator to assess the external validity (i.e. relevance4) and internal validity (i.e. accuracy) of those different studies.

Extended TitleDevelopment of Critical Appraisal Forms for the Evaluation of Ecotoxicology Studies
Extended Description

The scope of this procurement is to develop critical appraisal tools to support the evaluation of the studies submitted with the dossiers. With this project, it is proposed to start developing such tools in the area of ecotoxicology and to use them as pilot for other areas. This is justified by the high variability of study typologies in ecotoxicology, for which internationally agreed guidelines are not always available. The adoption of common appraisal tools will enhance the harmonisation and transparency of the study evaluations performed by the experts of Member States and EFSA staff/experts and it will increase the trust of the EFSA scientific assessments.
