Statement - On National Indigenous Peoples Day, let's applaud the achievements of our Indigenous health leaders

OTTAWA, June 21, 2019 /CNW/ - On behalf of Canada's physicians, we're honoured to be celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize Indigenous physicians for their leadership on medical and health matters not only for their communities, but for all Canadians.

When it comes to ensuring equitable access to care, there is still much work to be done. We'll continue to strive towards providing access to high-quality health care for all Canadians, while also recognizing the unique health and health care experiences and needs of Indigenous Peoples. Real solutions and health transformation can only happen when Indigenous Peoples are empowered.

Today, let's celebrate our diverse cultures while we continue to look for ways to advance our health system for all Canadians.
