E-Discovery Veteran Andrew Bye Joins Catalyst

DENVER, June 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Andrew Bye, an e-discovery and machine learning expert, has joined Catalyst as director of machine learning and analytics where he will support Catalyst's technology assisted review (TAR) initiatives, and advise clients on Insight Predict projects from start to finish.

"Andrew brings an impressive background in e-discovery and technology assisted review," said Catalyst founder and CEO John Tredennick. "We are confident that Andrew will help us improve the client experience with our award-winning team of data scientists and machine learning engineers."

Insight Predict is a second-generation TAR engine designed to reduce review costs and time for outbound productions, deposition prep and early case assessment. The Predictive Ranking process ranks documents by likely relevance to a particular issue. Once ranked, documents can be reviewed in ranked order, with likely relevant ones reviewed first. Because Predict ranks documents groups by topic and text similarity, review teams are more efficient. Increased review speeds, and the ability to cut off review once enough relevant documents have been found, can lead to savings of up to 80 percent.

Most recently, Bye worked as an independent data consultant, advising legal professionals on workflow and search needs. Previously, he was a data scientist and product manager at e-discovery company Recommind. He has also held positions as senior applications engineer at Oracle; computational linguist at customer-service platform RightNow, and senior engineer, data management, at e-discovery company H5. Bye has also worked as a litigation clerk in a intellectual property law firm.

"After meeting with Catalyst's leadership team, I immediately knew that I wanted to join the company," said Bye. "They've succeeded in assembling a fascinating group of people who have an incredible amount of knowledge in their respective fields. The machine learning in Insight Predict is already the best in the industry and I'm excited to be a part of the group that will take it to the next level."

Throughout his career, Bye has developed best practices in TAR and has worked closely with clients to implement effective TAR workflows from data delivery through statistical validation.

A resident of San Francisco, Bye has both bachelor's and master's degrees in linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, Los Angeles, respectively.
