doTERRA® Supports the Alexis Joy D'Achille Foundation

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, July 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Alexis D'Achille was a happy, social woman who always wanted to be a mom. Tragically, after the birth of her daughter she found herself suddenly spiraling in intense anxiety. Six weeks later, in October 2013, she took her own life, shocking all those who knew her. Too late, they discovered that Alexis had been suffering from postpartum depression. Her husband Steven founded the Alexis Joy D'Achille Foundation in his wife's honor to raise awareness of perinatal mood disorders and hopefully prevent future tragedies. doTERRA® is proud to support the Alexis Joy D'Achille Foundation's important work and recently made a donation to the annual auction.

Postpartum depression and other perinatal disorders are diseases that affect about 15-20 percent of women after giving birth. Different from the so-called "baby blues" that go away in the first few weeks, perinatal diseases can happen anytime up to a year after giving birth, and show more severe symptoms. It is estimated that at least one in seven women experience PPD in the US.

All perinatal mood disorders are temporary and treatable with professional help. Treatments include therapy, support groups, medicines, diet and exercise. By spreading awareness and developing programs for women and their families, the Alexis Joy D'Achille Foundation hopes to open a dialogue about these perinatal diseases that previously have been ignored, and save lives.
