Temple University Scales Video Technology University-wide to Capture Learning Anytime, Anywhere

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Echo360, the leader in academic video and student engagement, announced today an expanded partnership with Temple University to scale their video and engagement platform, currently in use at six of Temple University's campuses, serving up to 37,000 students in a variety of disciplines, including education, public health, medicine, engineering, dentistry, pharmacy, and podiatry.

This partnership will enable Temple University to meet growing demand for its online, international, and continuing education programs. In the last decade, Temple University has expanded its online program offerings and international programs in ten locations worldwide.

"As we expand our academic programs globally to meet the needs of today's students, it is critical that we have best-in-class instructional technology that is reliable and intuitive for faculty and students, and rooted in best practices in teaching and learning," said Susan Hyer, Assistant Vice President of Academic Computing at Temple University. "Echo360 provides the flexibility to capture learning in large or small lecture halls or classrooms and to view and access content from a variety of devices including a PC/laptop, tablet, or mobile device--delivering content wherever it is needed. We're excited to implement the academic video solution at scale, and further enhance the learning experience for all of our students."

"The rise of mobile technology and cloud-based services expands our ability to reach more students in a more effective and meaningful way," said Cindy Leavitt, Vice President for Computer Sciences and Chief Information Officer at Temple University. "Infusing a high quality video platform with research-based pedagogy and proven instructional practices allows us the opportunity to enhance the teaching and learning experience for our students, both now and in the future."

Through a competitive bidding process, Echo360's cloud-based video solution was selected over industry providers like Panopto and Mediasite because of the reliability of both its software and hardware, its adaptability to various learning environments, and its innovative integration of tools that encourage deeper student engagement in the course content. Students on the Echo360 platform can take notes time-synched to the lecture, respond to faculty questions or flag confusing content in an anonymous and risk-free way, and engage with peers and faculty before, during, and after class.

"Today's colleges and universities use video more than ever before, yet many institutions aren't fully realizing the opportunities video presents to drive deeper student engagement, reimagine classroom time, and surface meaningful data and insights," said Fred Singer, CEO and founder of Echo360. "Temple University's global, forward-thinking vision will enable learners around the world to access a dynamic learning experience, enabled by reliable yet innovative technology."

Echo360's cloud-based platform began implementation in July and will be available to all students at the six participating campuses in the Fall.
