Themed Chess Set Manufacturer, The House of Staunton, Shares their Inspiration

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Oct. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Chess pieces manufacturer, The House of Staunton, shares how a dream to bring back old world craftsmanship became the inspiration for themed chess sets and more.

Frank Camaratta, chess player and founder of The House of Staunton, always loved the old world chess sets and chessmen. They had a special place in his heart. Unfortunately, due to various market forces, Camaratta rarely encountered such high quality pieces as a player in serious tournaments. Frequently disappointed with the quality of chess sets sold through major outlets and in love with a bygone era where traditional chess makers held thriving businesses producing exquisite chessmen, Camaratta made a promise to himself.

In the 1960s, when he was competing in chess tournaments, Camaratta vowed to recreate the finest Old World Staunton and Pre-Staunton designs at fair prices. However, with a young family and a professional career outside of chess, it wasn't until much later that he was able to fulfill his promise.

The House of Staunton was born in 1990. Camaratta left his prestigious position at a major multinational high tech corporation to fulfill the promise he made to himself and bring back the production and distribution of quality chessmen and chess sets.

Today, The House of Staunton sells some of the finest and most ornate chess sets and chessmen on the market. Their themed sets draw additional inspiration from: the Isle of Lewis, Celtic history, the gods of mythology, as well as the American Civil War and more. Of course, The House of Staunton is also well-known for their production of exceptionally crafted old world designs with significant history.

The House of Staunton specializes in creating accurate recreations of the original Staunton chessmen. Their Cooke Series Staunton Pattern Precision Chessmen, for example, are a recreation of the very first boxwood and ebony Staunton Pattern Chessmen registered in 1849. This particular set uses Camaratta's proprietary weighting system which prevents the ebony chessmen from developing hairline cracks, a common problem with today's chess pieces. The series includes the small green registration lozenge under each piece and the red king's crown on the summits of one Knight and Rook from each army.

Camaratta is proud to offer exquisite handcrafted chessmen at fair prices. He also insists on exceptional customer service. The House of Staunton has been fulfilling Camaratta's dream and sharing their inspiration with the world for nearly thirty years.
