Leidos Is Named a 2017 GCN dig IT Winner

RESTON, Va., Oct. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), a Fortune 500(®) science and technology company was recognized as a GCN dig IT award winner in the Robotics, Automation & Unmanned Systems category at the October 19 event held in McLean, Va. For the past 29 years, the GCN dig IT Awards have featured transformative tech that is truly reinventing government and the pioneering IT professionals who are driving them forward.

Leidos received the award for its support of Sea Hunter, part of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA) Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program. Sea Hunter is an entirely new class of ocean-going vessel--one intended to traverse thousands of kilometers over the open seas for months at a time, all without a single crew member aboard.

Sea Hunter's impact is far-reaching. An unmanned surface vessel for continuous, overt trail is a disruptive approach to the growing submarine threat. Carrying out such missions at fractional cost creates a new advantage for the U.S. Sea Hunter's largest benefit is in its versatility as an autonomous vessel. It changes the realm of possibility for what the U.S. can accomplish using such a vessel, from anti-submarine warfare to mine warfare to other surveillance and sensing missions.

"We are very pleased to be recognized with such a prestigious award that highlights our innovative maritime autonomy technologies," said Leidos Group President Mike Chagnon. "Sea Hunter is a prime example of successful research and development that will transform the manner in which government missions are executed in the future and reduce the number of warfighters in harm's way."
