Clarion's 1991 Acura NSX Raises Big Money for the American Red Cross at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas

CYPRESS, Calif., Oct. 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Clarion Corporation of America announced today that its Clarion Builds program's second iconic classic vehicle restoration, a 1991 Acura NSX, officially sold at auction raising $135,000 for the American Red Cross. Clarion's one-of-a-kind, fully restored and tastefully modified Supercharged 1991 NSX, Lot No. 3002, crossed the auction block Friday afternoon, October 20, 2017 at 3:30pm PST at the 10(th) annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. 100-percent of the hammer price of the Clarion Builds Acura NSX was donated to the American Red Cross.

"Giving back to the community has long been a pillar of our company and we've helped raise more than $95 million for deserving charities over the years, but we couldn't do it without the help of partners like Clarion," said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. "I'm proud of all the work Clarion and its partners have put into resurrecting such a breathtaking piece of automotive history. There is no doubt that their attention to detail has translated to generating impressive charitable contributions to worthy organizations."

In 2015, the Clarion Builds program awarded Barrett-Jackson the "Official Auction Partner" title for the program's maiden build of an iconic 1974 BMW 2002 Resto-Mod. In April 2016, the sprightly little 2002 was auctioned off as a charity car at Barrett-Jackson's Palm Beach event - raising $125,000 for TGen Foundation to support cancer research. In 2016, the relationship between Clarion Builds and Barrett-Jackson was extended to include the Clarion Builds Acura NSX. Barrett-Jackson is recognized worldwide as the leading collector car auction house and was instrumental in collaboratively marketing the Clarion Builds Acura NSX to prospective buyers before it crossed the auction block in Las Vegas.

"The success of the Clarion Builds program can be attributed to the tireless efforts and steadfast participation of our numerous hand-selected industry partners, which includes Barrett-Jackson," said Paul Lachner, President of Clarion Corporation of America. "Having Barrett-Jackson as an integral partner of Clarion Builds affords us both the opportunity to serve our combined missions of philanthropy and support charitable organizations like the American Red Cross."

Clarion and its key partners for each project, including Barrett-Jackson and the American Red Cross, aim to unite fans and fully integrate them as a part of the program through both social and traditional media engagements. Additionally, Clarion and its partners work collaboratively to provide a great deal of detailed content designed to generate excitement and encourage fan participation as each project progresses through various stages of the build process.

"Throughout history, few cars have been able to catalyze a radical change in an entire automotive segment. The original NSX did just that, immediately setting the benchmark for sports car reliability, performance, comfort and style," said Allen H. Gharapetian, Vice President of Marketing and Product Planning for Clarion Corporation of America and Chief of the Clarion Builds program. "Our goal for the Clarion Builds NSX was to set those benchmarks even higher without compromising anywhere. In doing so, we pulled millions of fans and followers who celebrated this amazing project together, solidified our reputation for redefining standards in anything we do, including restoring and modifying cars to incredibly high standards, and raised a significant sum of money for a worthy cause. The Clarion Builds NSX has been by all accounts an exciting build and an incredible success!"

"Being able to support the relentless humanitarian work undertaken by the American Red Cross, and get an awesome car in the mix was a truly gratifying experience," said Bob Johnson, the winning bidder and new owner of the Clarion Builds NSX. "I've purchased several charity cars over the years, and have even owned a few NSXs, but none as phenomenally restored or upgraded as the Clarion Builds NSX. I think the car alone was worth the money but getting to help such a worthy organization was icing on the cake."

"We are thrilled to have been selected by Clarion Builds as the recipient of their extremely generous donation from the sale of their gorgeous 1991 Acura NSX at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction," said Linda Voss, CEO of American Red Cross, Desert to the Sea Region. "The funds raised will be put to great use, supporting the ongoing humanitarian efforts conducted by the Red Cross, which includes supporting veterans and their families, assisting the communities that have been affected by recent natural disasters, helping the Red Cross collect lifesaving blood from donors nationwide and providing disaster preparedness training to local agencies."
