Eaton Technologies Help Improve Performance and Efficiency on Six of Wards 10 Best Engines Winners

Power management company Eaton announced that its electric vehicle fuses and fuel- and emissions-saving technologies are on six of the 10 engines chosen by WardsAuto for its 24th annual “10 Best Engines” competition. The winners were honored today during a ceremony held at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan.

The Eaton technologies that are part of the winning engines and the six Eaton facilities that supply them include:

Valves – High performance, super alloy and lightweight:

  • Ford F-150 – 2.7L Turbocharged DOHC V-6 (Kearney, Nebraska)
  • Jaguar XE – 2.0L Turbocharged DOHC I-4 (Bielsko Biala, Poland and Bosconero, Italy)
  • Honda Civic Type R – 2.0L Turbocharged DOHC I-4 (Westminster, South Carolina)
  • Toyota Camry Hybrid – 2.5L DOHC I-4 (Westminster, South Carolina)

Bussmann Series Electric Vehicle Fuses – Power-dense and high-speed interruption capability:

  • Chevrolet Bolt – Permanent Magnetic Drive Motor (Juarez, Mexico)
  • Chrysler Pacifica – 3.6L DOHC V-6/dual electric motors (Pondicherry, India)

Eaton technologies have contributed to winning engines since the inception of Wards 10 Best Engines program.

The WardsAuto 10 Best Engines competition pits the latest engines available in the U.S. market against the returning winners from the previous year. To be eligible, an engine must be available on a production vehicle that is on sale within the first quarter of 2018 and has a base price of less than $63,000.

WardsAuto editors evaluate the vehicles in October and November during routine daily driving in the metropolitan Detroit area. Editors score each powertrain based on horsepower, torque, comparative specifications, noise attenuation, observed fuel economy and the application of new technology.
