Media Advisory - Calgary to host Canada's Wind Energy Leaders

Industry event to explore conditions for sustainable wind energy growth and its influence on grid evolution as Canada's most cost-effective source of new electricity

CALGARY, April 4, 2018 /CNW/ - The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) invites members of the media to attend the CanWEA Spring Forum on April 10 and 11, 2018 at the Westin Calgary.

At the event, wind industry leaders will share updates, outline key trends, and detail emerging opportunities in the nation's major renewable energy markets--including Alberta. The province's drive to phase out coal-fired electricity and diversify its grid have thrust it into the top ranks of Canadian wind-energy markets. A recent power auction in Alberta confirmed that wind is now the most cost-competitive source of new electricity in Canada.

In an opening keynote address, CanWEA president Robert Hornung will outline how wind energy must now build on its cost-competitiveness to provide a broader range of products and services to the grid while building long-term partnerships with landowners and local and Indigenous communities that will ensure wind energy can reliably, responsibly, and cost-effectively deliver the clean power needed in Alberta and across Canada while delivering substantial local economic benefits.

CanWEA will also welcome the president of the Conservative Energy Network to its Spring Forum stage. The Michigan-based organization is building a coalition of conservatives advocating for increased renewable energy development across the United States.
