GenderAvenger Releases New GA Tally App

Organization releases new tool to easily capture and share inclusive gender data about public events, conferences, and keynotes

NEW YORK, April 10, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- GenderAvenger (https://www.genderavenger.com/) is releasing the GA Tally App, a tool to gather data and promote gender equality in the public dialog. The tool tracks not only how many women speak at an event but also how many women of color speak or have a chance to participate. Users can also capture data on the actual amount of time a man or a woman speaks on stage, at a meeting, and on television. In a matter of moments, the app produces an image that makes that information easily shareable on social media channels.

GenderAvenger (GA) is a national nonprofit organization that keeps an eye on the presence of women and women of color on conference stages, on significant lists, in publications, onscreen, and wherever gender balance is an issue. The organization offers a suite of user friendly social media tools designed to help 'call out' gender inequality in public life, especially at influential public stages and tech conferences.

"The new GA Tally is the result of listening to the GenderAvenger community's desire to create the opportunity to hold conference organizers, list makers, and others accountable not simply for gender balance but also for the inclusion of women of color," said GenderAvenger founder, Gina Glantz.

GenderAvenger gained national attention during the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) by calling the event out for its lack of diversity in its all male keynote lineup. CES was forced to admit it had to do better.

GenderAvenger relies on data to push for change. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, "Employment of meeting, convention, and event planners is projected to grow 10 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations." As those jobs grow, GenderAvenger wants to make sure the industry knows the GA Tally, the organization, and its community is watching.

GenderAvenger's focus on diversity and gender parity was developed with the support of the Perception Institute. Executive Director Alexis McGill Johnson explains: "Most Americans reject discrimination, yet we often don't recognize bias in our everyday lives. At the Perception Institute, we seek change by cultivating productive conversations about identity differences. We are delighted to have been part of the development of the GA Tally, which will now help people to recognize when and how women of color are represented in the public sphere."

GenderAvenger recently revised its criteria for organizations, event and publications to obtain a GA Stamp of Approval. The stamp is given to conferences and events with strong gender equity:

-- GA Bronze Stamp of Approval: 40 percent + women of whom 30 percent are
        women of color
-- GA Silver Stamp of Approval: 40 percent + women of whom 40 percent are
        women of color
-- GA Gold Stamp of Approval: 40 percent + women of whom 50 percent are
        women of color

The GA Tally is available as an app (on Android and iOS), but it can be accessed via desktop or mobile at genderavenger.com/tally.
