G2I Co-Sponsors Major Initiative to Address the Tech Jobs Gap

The Initiative Will Measure IT Skill and Talent Needs Across the St. Louis Region

ST. LOUIS, May 4, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Gateway to Innovation, the region's premiere IT conference which donates all proceeds to technology-related initiatives, is co-sponsoring a community-wide effort to understand and plan for future technology employment needs.

ITEN, the St. Louis-based entrepreneurial support organization and catalyst for technology innovation, has commissioned a short online survey to understand and plan for St. Louis' technology jobs and skills needs. Funding for the survey is being provided by Gateway to Innovation, Avison Young and TDK Technologies.

Many core IT skills including big data management, programming and engineering are in demand.

"A community-wide effort is required to solve the technology skills shortage within our region. There are many more technology jobs available than there are qualified applicants to fill them," said David Kocs, Gateway to Innovation Executive Committee member and Principal at TDK Technologies. "The results of this survey will help focus efforts to address the gaps."

The email survey will be conducted by Peters Marketing Research. Questions will be sent to a targeted list of 3,500 individuals currently employed in technology leadership roles in the St. Louis region. Among those invited to take the survey will be hiring managers, workers and leaders in the local tech industry. Respondents will include individuals at both startups and established companies. ITEN expects to have a final report on the survey results published within eight to 10 weeks.

This research is designed to measure the core IT skills and talent needs in the region, which will provide an inventory of the current situation and outlook for the next few years that would inform a community-wide conversation to solve the problem.

Gateway to Innovation attracts 1,500 technology professionals to its annual conference, which will be held May 16 at America's Center Convention Complex in downtown St. Louis. Since it started in 2006, the conference has contributed nearly $1.4 million to support technology scholarships and initiatives within the community.
