NEPTUNE, N.J., May 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) - Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) Partnership will host its third Cancer Science Today event on Tuesday, May 22, at Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The community education talk is titled "Knowing Your Family's Cancer Risk" and will jointly feature Dr. Elizabeth Jewell, Director of Surgery at MSK Monmouth and MSK Basking Ridge, and Dr. Verda J. Hicks, Chief of Gynecologic Oncology, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and Medical Director, Gynecologic Oncology, Hackensack Meridian Health Cancer Care in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex Counties.

The conversation, which will include an audience Q&A at the end, will be moderated by Steve Adubato, PhD, Emmy Award-winning anchor and author of "Lessons in Leadership".

During the event, Dr. Jewell and Dr. Hicks will discuss topics including known inherited gene mutations and their cancer risk, genetic testing and counseling, available treatment options, and resources available through the MSK-HMH Partnership for patients and their families. Previous Cancer Science Today events included robust discussions around the capabilities and limitations of commercial genetic testing products, new approaches to cancer care, and the future of cancer prevention and treatment.

Formed in 2016, the MSK-HMH Partnership combines the expertise of two world-class organizations to work toward more cures for cancer and increasing patient access to the highest-quality cancer care available. Ultimately, the MSK-HMH Partnership will develop new standards of cancer care and open joint treatment facilities.
