Starfish Network Opens a Community Hub to Connect the Bay Area Blockchain Ecosystem

The SOMA space supplements the social infrastructure of co-working with educational and developer-focused event programming.

SAN FRANCISCO, May 25, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Starfish Network is opening Starfish Mission, its flagship blockchain focused co-working community in the Bay Area to serve as a hub for development, education, and collaboration across the industry. Located at 1535 Mission St in the heart of San Francisco, the Starfish team's vision for the space extends beyond a co-working environment to include regular outreach and opportunities for education and growth through regular events for the wider community.

Starfish's programming for events supports learning and encourages collaboration through events such as an April talk with Satoshi's first contributor to Bitcoin and the Ethereum Design Jam. Upcoming networking opportunities, lectures and workshops include a weekly Galactic happy hour, weekly peer-to-peer Solidity training, and a San Francisco Design Week summit on the convergence of blockchain and AI in retail tech. This focus on community development initiatives includes partnerships with leading blockchain developer education organizations Oakland Blockchain Devs and Peerbuds to educate developers. The Starfish Network also plans to expand its footprint and education initiatives to other US cities in the near future.

"Both the ethos and name for Starfish arose from Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom's seminal 2006 text on decentralized organizations 'The Starfish and the Spider,' which highlights the regenerative, resilient nature of leaderless structures," said entrepreneur, investor, and Starfish co-founder Alicia Ferratusco. "These ideas are spreading pervasively with the rising popularity and possibilities of blockchain, and we aim to provide a platform to support that growth within and beyond the blockchain community."

To reinforce its commitment to diversity and inclusion and ensure that as the blockchain community matures it includes those values in its organizational culture, Starfish is beginning an industry-wide diversity and inclusion survey And building a blockchain-enabled art gallery into the design of Starfish's processes and physical space. The organization is also dedicated to being an experimental ground for blockchain tech by accepting several cryptocurrencies and actively using blockchain technologies for the day-to-day operations of their space.
