New Sensormatic anti-theft label fits health and beauty self-service retailing model

NEUHAUSEN, Switzerland, June 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Tyco Retail Solutions today announced its new Sensormatic Health, Beauty & Cosmetic (HBC) Label, providing an anti-theft solution for beauty items difficult to protect or not currently protected due to size or shape constraints. Its thin and narrow profile is designed to secure some of the most stolen cosmetics and personal care items that are usually small and easy to conceal. The successful trend to move beauty items from behind the counter and make them convenient for today's shoppers creates new opportunities for theft that the new Sensormatic HBC label is designed to help protect.

The global cosmetic products market is growing and expected to reach a market value of USD $805.61 billion by 2023, registering a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7.14 percent during 2018-2023.(1 )As statistics indicate, cosmetic sales will climb and the potential for loss will increase in tandem because of a wide variety of small, expensive items that are highly targeted by thieves. In fact, drugstores, pharmacies and perfumeries rank number one as the highest market vertical worldwide based upon shrink rate as a percentage of sales.(2 )

As makeup counters are fading away due to today's evolving shopper behavior, retailers and brands must find anti-theft solutions to fit the new self-service model for beauty. The HBC label provides retailers with reliable merchandise protection using proven Acousto-Magnetic (AM) EAS Sensormatic technology. Its narrow design protects cylindrically-shaped merchandise too slender for traditional EAS labels such as cosmetics, skin care and oral health products.

"Today, consumers want to try before they buy and easily access items when they want them. So that's why offering samples and moving products out on shelves and closer to shoppers versus behind counters is the new way of selling beauty. To support this change in retailing, the Sensormatic HBC label is an ideal solution to help retailers protect what is currently unprotected -- thin and narrow profile products -- while consumers take the experience into their own hands to play, try, and learn before they buy," said Catherine Walsh, senior vice president and general manager, Tyco Retail Solutions.
