Scoot Offers San Francisco ‘Free Ride Day’ on September 13

Since 2012, commuters and visitors across the Bay Area have logged over 5.3 million miles on shared electric motor scooters from San Francisco-based Scoot – enjoying an affordable, eco-friendly way to get around town, while preventing over 5 million pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

As part of its ongoing mission to provide “Electric Vehicles for Everyone,” Scoot announced it will offer attendees of the Global Action Climate Summit free access to its network of over 1,000 shared electric scooters during the September 12-14 conference in San Francisco. To demonstrate the environmental impact of shared electric vehicles, Scoot will also offer a “Free Ride Day” for the entire city of San Francisco on Thursday, September 13. Participants will receive a credit on Scoot’s mobile app to ride the company’s vehicles for up to 30 minutes, free-of-charge.

Scoot’s “Free Ride Day” is presented in partnership with Fremont, Calif.-based GenZe, which is the major supplier for Scoot’s fleet of electric motor scooters in San Francisco. As part of a free-floating shared vehicle network, Scoot vehicles utilize the IoT technology in GenZe electric scooters to track each vehicle’s location.

“Free Ride Day is a way for us to demonstrate that San Francisco is a global leader in personal, sustainable transportation. Scoot has managed to seamlessly integrate into the city’s existing systems and infrastructure and make the process effortless for new riders,” said GenZe CEO Vish Palekar.

Scoot operates thousands of motor scooters and e-Bikes in San Francisco and Barcelona, Spain. The company is undertaking further expansion into cities across Western Europe and the Americas throughout next year.

“Scoot’s mission is to reduce global carbon emissions and traffic congestion by providing multi-modal, electric transportation,” said Scoot Founder and CEO Michael Keating. “The Global Climate Action Summit is a landmark event. We are pleased to align with our transportation partner, GenZe, to share how our vehicles offer a reliable, affordable and fun way to contribute to the climate solution, right here in San Francisco.”

New and existing riders across San Francisco can participate in the “Free Ride Day” on September 13 by accessing the Scoot app on iOS and Android phones. Existing Scoot riders will receive a credit to their account, while new riders can use the promo code GCAS18 during signup to receive a credit for 30 minutes of free riding. Rides longer than the free 30 minutes are 10 cents per minute. To download the Scoot app and for more details on the electric scooter fleet, visit www.scoot.co.
