Deep Cut, Makers of Premium Vinyl Record Shelves, Close $18K in Funding in 13 Day

CROSSLAKE, Minn., Oct. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A corporate finance specialist, small agency director, and woodworker all turned entrepreneurs have joined up to create premium, handmade shelves designed specifically for vinyl collectors, a market that is fast becoming mainstream. Their newly-launched company, Deep Cut, has raised over $18,000 in under two weeks on Indiegogo.

"The response has been amazing," says co-founder and head of marketing Rich Porter. "We're record collectors, and this is a product we wanted for ourselves. We were getting requests from collectors we knew, but the early results on Indiegogo help validate the idea that this is how a lot of people want to store and display their vinyl collections."

Deep Cut's products especially cater to the new or casual vinyl collector. Each unit holds about 60 records, so they do not look empty holding a dozen or two dozen records. But, as the collection grows, it is easy to add more shelves and space as and when needed. Deep Cut's offering sets itself apart because it is:

-- Handmade using high-grade hardwood materials
-- Wall-mounted, getting collections up away from the floor and at
        eye-level
-- Assembly-free with easy install for any skill level
-- Clean and minimalist in design and fitting in a wide range of decors and
        interior designs
-- Scale-able, allowing for more space when more space is needed
-- Useful for more than just records

"For wall-mounted options that can hold more than a few records, you pretty much had IKEA," said Rob Porter, Rich's cousin, who is co-founder and head of production. "This is a big step up in quality and appearance from the mass produced stuff. And we really focused on the details, like the continuous edge-wrapped wood grain around the top corners and visible miter fold joints."

Deep Cut's launch comes at a time when an increasing number of people are starting record collections. New vinyl sales are up by almost 20% so far in 2018, according to Nielsen, and growth in vinyl sales has been steadily up since 2006. "People are getting into vinyl because it's a ritual and records are showpieces," said Clark Porter, Rich's brother, who heads operations and finance. "We are tapping into the desire to have an attractive home for your albums because they say a lot about you."

Deep Cut's Indiegogo campaign launched on September 12th with a goal of raising $25,000. The money will go toward tools, equipment, facility upgrades, and materials to allow for production at scale without sacrificing the quality. The campaign is scheduled to run for 30 days finishing on October 11th. In the meantime, the co-founders will prepare to give the world's records a better home.
