The idea for the competition came after Barry's Auto Body released several humorous educational videos where Staten Island couple, Donna and Vito (played by Jennifer Remauro and George Passariello) found themselves in need of auto collision repair. No matter what type of repair was needed, someone would boldly state, "I Gotta Guy" to fix that. The guy was Barry Crupi, owner of Barry's Auto Body along with his sister, Michelle Crupi. The series was a hit which prompted the Crupi's to launch the, "Make Staten Island Laugh" competition.

Said Barry Crupi, "People are normally anxious when it comes to auto collision repair. Since humor is the great equalizer, we decided to use comedy to help educate the public about the collision repair process. The "Make Staten Island Laugh" competition is our way of injecting humor into a stressful situation."

Anyone wishing to offer a submission can do so by visiting Barry's Auto Body website. The competition ends on December 31, 2018 so submissions should be uploaded as soon as possible. Once the submission is uploaded to the website, the link should be shared with friends, family and on social media in order to garner comments. Although Barry's Auto Body will make the final determination on which submission is funniest, comments from the general public will be strongly considered.
