NATO Parliamentary Assembly Members visit Endeavor Robotics during U.S. trip
BOSTON, Oct. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, its Sub-Committee on Transatlantic Relations, consisting of 20 parliamentarians from 10 countries, yesterday visited the Chelmsford, Mass. headquarters of Endeavor Robotics, the world's leading provider of unmanned ground vehicles. The group met with Endeavor senior executives and watched robot demonstrations as part of a four-day trip to Boston and New York, Oct. 22-26.
NATO parliamentarians saw demos of the company's PackBot® and FirstLook® robots, two Endeavor products used widely by U.S. military and law enforcement, as well as by defense forces in NATO nations.
"The use of robots and related technologies to safeguard lives during security operations is of growing importance to all NATO member countries," said Michael Gapes, vice chair of the Transatlantic Relations Sub-Committee. "To visit Endeavor Robotics and learn more about their robots' ability to keep our forces away from danger gives us an appreciation for the role they can play in many areas. We're grateful to Endeavor for hosting us and building these life-saving machines."
"It's a special honor to welcome members of NATO's Parliamentary Assembly," said Sean Bielat, Endeavor Robotics CEO. "We've provided large numbers of robots to NATO countries for years, and they're being used by a variety of forces across a wide range of needs. The common thread is that, whatever the mission, wherever the deployment, our robots help keep humans out of harm's way.
"The case for robotics technology and more autonomous solutions to bomb disposal, hostage situations, and hazmat events only continues to grow. We're pleased to be able to showcase our capabilities to NATO allies so they can see firsthand what our robots can do," Bielat added.
Since its creation in 1955, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly has provided a unique forum for members of parliament from across the Atlantic Alliance to discuss and influence decisions on Alliance security. The Assembly is institutionally separate from NATO, but serves as an essential link between NATO and the parliaments of the NATO nations. It provides greater transparency of NATO policies, and fosters better understanding of the Alliance's objectives and missions among legislators and citizens of the Alliance.
