Status Transportation Works with Owner Operators to Reduce Accidents in Commercial Transportation

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Status Transportation Corp., a leading ground freight and cargo services company for Owner Operators, is taking an active role in reducing the potential for accidents for its fleet of Owner Operators.

As highways become more crowded and distracted drivers are on the rise, Status Transportation has taken an active role in helping professional drivers curb potential threats that can result in an accident, loss of revenue or worst--a fatality.

With the use of navigation technology and the support of dispatchers, Status Transportation ensures Owner Operators' access to services and tools that can help them increase their control over as many challenging factors as possible.

Reducing accidents is often a matter of ensuring that drivers are aware of their surroundings, with daily spot-checking for potential threats such as low tire pressure, brake system failures, and other mechanical issues.

In addition, Status Transportation requires Owner Operators to undergo an inspection every three months as a proactive and preventive measure to uncover potential challenges--that's four times a year instead of the federally-required annual inspection.
"Increasing the frequency of inspections can help prevent the negative press of a serious accident and keeps Owner Operators aware of the need to be proactive," said John L. Statkus, President of Status Transportation. "We also remind them to apply common sense and have good rest before beginning their routes"
Rest is of particular importance to a driver since the most common causes for accidents can be attributed to human error--including fatigue, a lack of patience, or making improper turns without seeing what's ahead.

While technology is a great ally in helping prevent commercial vehicle accidents, the increased connectivity of people using smartphones and mobile devices while driving is becoming a common reason for fatal crashes.

The threat of non-commercial drivers on the road making improper lane changes, drunk driving, or speeding are also a cause for concern by Owner Operators and they must be equally aware of what's happening around their tractor trailers.

As a company policy, Status Transportation requires new Owner Operators to have at least two years of active commercial experience, ensuring that they have the knowledge needed for a safe driving experience.

Knowing how to react to an oil spill on the road, reacting to a blown tire, or predicting the distance required to break with a full load are essential skills that only an experienced commercial driver can manage.

As an additional layer of prevention, Status Transportation employs ASE-certified technicians who have the experience in diesel vehicle repair--and this means that when a problem is identified by a technician in a quarterly inspection, it will also be less costly to repair.

"Status Transportation is committed to ensuring Owner Operators remain focused on the road and driving in a safe and proactive manner," added Statkus. "From the initial orientation to the use of electronic logbooks, we go above and beyond to provide guidance and controls."

A final note should be made that Status Transportation abides by federally-mandated drug testing and required a medically-qualified screening before employment.
