Casio's November Artist Spotlight: Roger Hooper

DOVER, N.J., Nov. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- This November, Casio America, Inc., a leading innovator of electronic musical instruments, is excited to spotlight composer, performer, producer and recording artist Roger Hooper, as part of its Artist Program. Casio's Artist Program was created in an effort to assist both aspiring and established musicians by providing multiple levels of support including the best tools and technology available for them to create and perform with on the go or at home.

"We are honored that Roger loves using Casio's keyboards to create and share his music," said Stephen Schmidt, Vice President of Casio's Electronic Musical Instrument division. "His passion for music and dedication to our brand make him an ideal fit for Casio's Artist Program, and we look forward to what he brings to the table next!"

Hooper graduated from the University of Maryland with a Music Theory degree and later worked in the keyboard/digital recording retail scene for many years before focusing on a composing career. He has been nominated for best score for the short film "We Are the Dead" at the Liberty University Cinematic Showcase in 2017, "best score/short film" at the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema in January 2012 for "The Cosmonaut", and for best score at the Machinima Festival 2006 in New York City for Reliant Films' "Battlefield 2142" gameplay trailer. Other notable projects Hooper has worked on include the award-winning documentary films for Voice of America, "Boko Haram: Journey from Evil" (featuring David Oyelowo) and "A Single Step: Journeys of Women Leaders" (featuring Sally Field), the opening theme for Voice of America's 2018 web series, "After Parkland", composing the trailer for Zynga Games' "The Ville", and the score for "The Road We Know", among others! When not composing, Hooper performs at wedding ceremonies and receptions, as well as on a church worship team.

Hooper currently owns and uses Casio's PRIVIA PX-560 as his main controller at home and during gigs. The PX-560 features Casio's renowned Tri-Sensor Scaled Hammer Action II keyboard, which accurately reproduces the touch and response of a concert grand piano. The PX-560 is not just a highly capable stage piano, but a full-fledged synthesizer. It also features Casio's Hex Layer technology, borrowed from the flagship Privia Pro PX-5S. This means musicians can create massive splits and layers, with four zones and a total of 14 layers at once. Additionally, this keyboard features a 256-note polyphony, 600 preset tones, 400 user tones and 20 programmable insert effects, among many other features.

"I've used Casio keyboards for several years; I fell in love with them right away and I have not found a better feel or sound for my live work," said Hooper. "My PRIVIA PX-560 is also a huge part of my composition work. Not only is it incredibly affordable, it makes a great controller for my DAW and sounds like it's worth many times its price...and it's not heavy. You simply can't get better than that!"
