US Signal Announces the Construction of its Second Greater Detroit Data Center

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Nov. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- US Signal, a provider of data center services, today announced that it has commenced the engineering and construction of its newest data center in Van Buren Township, Michigan, part of the greater Detroit area. The facility is slated to open its doors in Q4 2019. The growing adoption of cloud-first, hybrid and off-premises data center strategies are driving the necessity for increased colocation space. The new state-of-the-art facility will add up to 100,000 square feet of additional data center space in greater Detroit.

Connected to US Signal's wholly-owned, robust, secure network, the new data center will be the fourth facility for the company in Michigan, with two additional data centers owned and operated in Grand Rapids and one in Southfield. The project was initiated to accommodate the growth of anchor customers and to support the region's prospering business and technology communities.

With a statewide priority of retaining technology talent, the new facility will contribute to growing technical jobs within the state of Michigan. This additional Michigan data center will provide organizations with a local option for colocation, disaster recovery and cloud hosting, which increases the available infrastructure that will assist in making Southeast Michigan an attractive location for expansion into the region.

US Signal's SSAE 16-certified data centers are strategically located in business-friendly locations throughout America's heartland. All the companies' data centers, including the additional facilities in Oakbrook, Illinois, Madison, Wisconsin, Indianapolis and South Bend, Indiana are at least 200 miles apart and are on separate power grids to minimize the effects of natural disasters. Situated in areas with cooler weather for energy efficiency and protected from weather-related events, they are easily accessible from main transportation routes.

"As organizations develop hybrid cloud strategies in Michigan and across the United States, they often seek to alleviate the burden of owning and operating their own data center," said Dave Wisz, executive vice president of operations at US Signal. "The new greater Detroit data center will increase US Signal's data center availability and enable organizations throughout the region to take advantage of both geographic diversity and lower latency because of the adjacency between their office and their colocated equipment and cloud hosting services."

In US Signal's 2018 IT Resiliency Survey, respondents indicated that they are utilizing backup, continuous data protection and disaster recovery technologies to create IT resiliency. The survey indicated that most respondents are utilizing third-party data center and cloud providers to manage the day-to-day operations of their IT infrastructure. With US Signal, organizations can alleviate the burden of owning their own data center and can instead turn to US Signal for regional colocation, cloud and network connectivity.
