Centinel Spine Celebrates 10th Anniversary

NEW YORK, Dec. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Centinel Spine(®), LLC, the largest privately-held spine company focused on anterior column reconstruction, announces the 10(th) anniversary celebration of its founding.

Centinel Spine began operations in 2008 through the merger-acquisition of two pioneering medical device companies--Raymedica, LLC and Surgicraft, LTD. Founded in 1990, Raymedica became the recognized leader in nucleus replacement and developed technologies that helped thousands of patients restore function. UK-based Surgicraft commenced spine-focused operations in 1982 and launched the revolutionary Hartshill Horseshoe product in 1988--the first Stand-Alone/No Profile(®) anterior lumbar interbody fusion device in the world. This first-of-its-kind device was the basis for future generations of the market-leading Integrated Interbody(TM) technology platform known today as STALIF(®). STALIF technology has a 30-year clinical history, with over 60,000 devices implanted, and still remains the only stand-alone device demonstrating biomechanical equivalence to anterior plate and cage constructs in independent peer-reviewed publications.

"Centinel Spine's foundation is built on the quality of our products, which are designed with the highest understanding that these products go into someone's family member and often allow patients to regain their lives. Our mission is to become the worldwide leading company addressing spinal disease anteriorly with the widest breadth and depth of technology platforms. This mission is enduring and it is the standard by which the company and its employees weigh actions and decisions," says Centinel Spine Chairman & CEO, John Viscogliosi.

The company's leadership in anterior column reconstruction was further strengthened through its recent acquisition of the prodisc(®) Total Disc Replacement technology platform--the most extensive cervical and lumbar motion-preserving reconstruction portfolio available today. The prodisc technology is the most studied and clinically-proven Total Disc Replacement system in the world, aligning with Centinel Spine's focus on the proven clinical efficacy of its products. The prodisc design has been validated with over 125,000 device implantations and a reported reoperation rate of less than 1%. With the addition of prodisc, Centinel Spine stands alone as the only company with comprehensive motion preserving and fusion solutions for both cervical and lumbar anterior column reconstruction.

Centinel Spine's most recent technological advancements include the FLX(TM) Platform of Integrated Interbody(TM) and non-integrated interbody fusion devices. FLX devices are 3D-printed, all-titanium implants that feature a combination of solid and porous radiolucent sections designed to reduce mechanical stiffness and improve visibility, as compared to solid titanium implants. Four different FLX implant portfolios were released in 2018, including integrated and non-integrated cervical interbodies, an integrated lumbar interbody, and an integrated lateral interbody.

"We are excited about the FLX Platform, which represents a significant milestone in the evolution of our proven STALIF technology. Our FLX products merge the proven benefits of the STALIF design with a truly novel, all-titanium lattice technology, and provide our surgeons the flexibility to use multiple implant material options to address each patient's unique pathology," says Viscogliosi.

Since its founding, Centinel Spine has evolved into a global organization with more than 100 employees and 16 differentiated product families that help thousands of patients around the world. Today, Centinel Spine still embraces the pioneering culture developed at both Raymedica and Surgicraft, continuing on its corporate mission.
