Radon Water Testing: Expanded Advocacy for Citizens for Radioactive Radon Reduction

WATERLOO, Ill., Jan. 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Citizens for Radioactive Radon Reduction (CR3) announced that it will be adding continued radon awareness regarding well and water testing as part of their radon advocacy initiatives. "We will be refocusing our approach to respond to issues surrounding water testing for radon given the current environmental climate." said Director Gloria Linnertz. As someone with a deep invested background in policy, advocacy and government, Gloria understands that a strong consumer voice is critical to protecting and improving air and water quality, promoting better health and preventing lung cancer.

Citizens for Radioactive Radon Reduction will be presenting ideas regarding ways in which property owners and concerned communities can engage in local advocacy with respect to radon testing. With the help of community organizations who are advocating not only for radon testing and mitigation, but also, health assessments, free CT Scans and physician awareness; the hope is that stronger health awareness will cause property owners to pay more attention to their health situation which might be affected by long-term exposure to contaminants. This third step is critical in preventing radon-related lung cancer. 'It's not enough to just test our homes", said Gloria Linnertz, Director of CR3, "with the up-swing in well contamination from contaminants due to fracking in states like Pennsylvania, we would be remiss if we did not implement a stronger and more complete radon testing education plan.

Citizens for Radioactive Radon Reduction advocates for policy change, connects diverse institutions that serve the same radon eradication goals, pushes for more resources for patients, homeowners and schools, educates local officials about the need for testing, and empowers parents and youth to become advocates in their own local communities.

"Every year we gain more members from every part of the world.", says Jacquelyn Nixon, Publisher of CR3 News Magazine. "Our world-wide publication is dedicated to promoting the efforts of those members and the industry who are working towards improving the situation of radon and lung cancer. This January 2019 issue starts out educating people about the issues of fracking because very few people are aware that radon is included as a contaminant from that effort."

Unconventional oil and gas development (UOGD, or "fracking") has the potential to impact water quality at many stages of the process. If water comes from a private well, property owners should be particularly aware of water quality issues. Private well water quality is not regulated in the United States, and well owners are responsible for performing their own monitoring. Regular monitoring is particularly important if the property is within three miles of UOGD activities.
