Freedonia Analyst Weighs in on Pentair Acquisitions of Aquion and Pelican Water

CLEVELAND, Jan. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- On January 7(th), 2019, Pentair announced two acquisitions of consumer water treatment companies totaling $280 million. Pentair has reached agreements to acquire Aquion for $160 million and Pelican Water Systems for $120 million.

Pentair is a leading manufacturer of water treatment for residential markets, as well as a number of industrial and commercial sectors. The company, which split off its electrical business in 2018, is expanding its product line and dealer network with these acquisitions.

Aquion, which is owned by Mason Wells, operates in the water treatment business through four divisions, including ProSystems, RainSoft, ClearWater Tech, and Erie Water Treatment. Pelican Water Systems is owned by Trivest Partners and operates out of Florida.

According to Freedonia Group Analyst Dan Debelius, "Pentair is already a leader in the US consumer water treatment systems market, producing whole-house and POU systems water purification systems, as well as water softeners. These two acquisitions will increase its US presence substantially."

Debelius further explains: "The Aquion acquisition will help the company grow its dealer network, as Aquion's divisions have dealers throughout the US and the globe. For instance, Aquion's RainSoft division has over 150 dealers in the US as well as dealers in over 20 countries. Dealers can provide installation and product expertise, as well as water quality consultations and testing."

He continues, "Pelican Water is a growing name in the water treatment business, producing a range of products, from whole-house water treatment systems specifically for well water to shower filter systems. The company has expanded its market presence since its founding a little over a decade ago and will provide Pentair with a deeper product line."
