Aviat Networks Announces New IP/MPLS Transport Router

MILPITAS, Calif., Feb. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Aviat Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVNW), the leading expert in wireless transport solutions, today announced the release of CTR 8740, a new SDN ready IP/MPLS router specifically designed for transport networks, either fiber, microwave, millimeter wave or a combination of all.

With state-of-the-art hardware, and AviatOS which standardizes IP/MPLS features across all Aviat products, CTR 8740 is a high capacity transport router that cuts the cost of routing significantly when compared to standard routers. Additionally, through the integration of Aviat's advanced modem technology, CTR 8740 removes the need for extra hardware in microwave or millimeter wave applications thus further lowering capital and operational expenses for customers. With its robust IP/MPLS feature set, CTR 8740 enables a single low-cost transport routing solution for both fiber and wireless connected sites.

CTR 8740 is 5G ready, offering a compelling solution for mobile operators who are preparing for network upgrades. The product offers high capacity and software modularity to safeguard investments, ensuring operators have a platform that scales as network demands grow. These CTR 8740 capabilities are also critical for private networks such as public safety agencies and utilities as they deal with ever-increasing data traffic demands.

In order to ensure simple network wide management, the CTR 8740 is integrated with Aviat Networks ProVision Plus, Aviat's unified element management, service management, and SDN domain controller platform. Additionally, CTR 8740 implements Netconf/YANG natively for simple integration into standard SDN frameworks for multi-vendor, multi-domain environments.

"We are very excited about the opportunity CTR 8740 creates for Aviat," states Michael Pangia, president and CEO, Aviat Networks. "Aviat is now positioned to capture more router business in both private and mobile applications, especially with 5G deployments on the horizon."

CTR 8740 will be available for first customer deployments in the second quarter of 2019 and will be on display at the upcoming Mobile World Congress Conference, February 25 - 28, in Barcelona, Spain.
