Eight Experts to Lead 2nd Annual Healthcare Compliance Symposium on April 4, 2019
WILMINGTON, Del., Feb. 22, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The second annual Healthcare Compliance Symposium is a joint effort of Widener University Delaware Law School and First Healthcare Compliance to provide resources and learning opportunities for those entering the healthcare compliance field and experienced professionals. The full-day event will be held on April 4th at the Delaware Law School and will include continental breakfast, lunch, learning credits, and a complimentary copy of The Fundamentals guidebook by First Healthcare Compliance. Registration is open to the public, but availability is limited.
Eight expert presenters will cover timely topics and answer questions related to real-life scenarios. Attendees are eligible to receive 7.5 CLE credits (6.5 substantive, 1 ethics) in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. This program has been approved for 7.5 continuing education unit(s) by Practice Management Institute® and PAHCOM. This education activity has been submitted to the Compliance Certification Board (CCB)® and is currently pending their review for approval of CCB CEUs.

Edward McAndrew, Esq. is a counselor and trial lawyer who focuses his practice on cybersecurity matters, helping clients manage cyber risk, comply with legal requirements and industry standards, prepare for and respond to cyber incidents, and handle related investigations and litigation. Substantive areas of his practice include computer and financial fraud, digital privacy, intellectual property protection, social media, online speech, cyber-based national security issues and governmental demands for data. He recently joined DLA Piper's Intellectual Property and Technology practice as a partner based in Wilmington and Washington, DC.
William J. McBorrough is co-founder and CEO at MCGlobalTech, a Washington DC-based information security management consulting firm. For more than 19 years, Mr. McBorrough has demonstrated success as an administrator, engineer, architect, consultant, manager, and practice leader, developing cost-effective solutions to support the strategic and operational goals of client organizations in the areas of enterprise information security risk management, IT governance, security organization development and management, and government information assurance and compliance.
Kathleen W. McNicholas, MD, JD earned an MD from Jefferson Medical College magma cum laude and completed general surgery training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and served as a surgical house officer in London at the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street. She remained at CPMC for cardiothoracic training and chief residency then returned to GOS as senior registrar in the cardiac unit. Dr. McNicholas was chief of pediatric cardiac surgery at Deborah Heart and Lung Center prior to starting the cardiac surgery program in Delaware. Seeking a hobby, she studied law at the Delaware Law School and earned a JD cum laude and an LLM in health law with honors. After retiring from clinical practice, she completed a fellowship in patient safety leadership and became the medical director of performance improvement and patient safety and lead the Just Culture program and CANDOR. Currently, Dr. McNicholas is a consultant and patient advocate.
Rebecca L. Rakoski, Esq. is the co-founder and managing partner at XPAN Law Group. Rebecca uniquely understands how technology intersects with her client's legal obligations and liabilities. She has extensive experience in cybersecurity standards and guidelines such as HIPAA, NY DFS, FTC, NIST, ISO, for cybersecurity and data privacy. Rebecca also focuses on domestic data privacy and cross border data transfer issues. Rebecca performs in-depth cybersecurity assessments, audits, and gap analysis. She advises and drafts internal and outward facing policies and procedures governing cybersecurity, including breach response/disaster recovery plans and counsels clients through a breach by navigating the complexities of different state and federal regulations. Lauren M. Russel, Esq. an associate with Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor LLP, represents employers on a range of issues relating to compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and constitutional provisions. She has extensive litigation experience, and regularly assists clients in administrative proceedings before state and federal agencies, including the EEOC. She has litigated a wide variety of employment-related matters to successful resolutions, including employment discrimination cases under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, non-competition cases, and constitutional law cases, among others. In addition to litigation, Ms. Russell counsels employers on a broad range of topics, including revision of handbooks and related policies to ensure compliance with state and federal employment and labor statutes. Lauren also conducts on-site training on legal compliance, including anti-harassment training.
Catherine Walters, Esq. is an employment and labor attorney who provides management-side representation and compliance services for employers of all sizes, including privately and publicly held companies, government contractors, health care providers, institutions of higher education, entrepreneurs, trade associations and other non-profit organizations. Her practice spans an array of industries, including financial and banking, manufacturing, defense contracting, health care, education, professional services, insurance, construction, technology, retail, real estate, and hospitality. Andrew Wilson, Esq. is an associate and legislative specialist in Morris James' Health Care Industry and Government Relations Groups. After graduating with his Juris Doctor from Albany Law School in 2010 and before moving to Delaware, Andrew worked as Counsel and Policy Analyst to members of the New York State Senate.
