CME Outfitters Launches Opioid Education Hub to Provide Activities & Resources for Appropriate Pain Management

BETHESDA, Md., March 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- CME Outfitters (CMEO), a leading accredited provider of continuing medical education, is thrilled to announce the launch of the Opioid Education Hub - a one-stop-shop for education and resources on appropriate pain management for both clinicians and patients. The hub is part of a nationwide initiative with USF Health to promote responsible prescribing for pain in the United States; the project, Addressing the Opioid Epidemic: A Call to Action to Save Our Communities, is supported by an educational grant from Johnson & Johnson.

As the rise in use of opioids and opioid related deaths dominates our headlines, education beyond general media awareness of the epidemic is essential, not only for HCPs, but for patients and their loved ones as well. Education provides an opportunity to help HCPs better understand the biologic underpinnings of pain pathways so that their decision-making is focused on treatment alternatives that are targeted, effective, and safe. Additionally, education to the patient is essential to understanding their treatment--the why and the how--so that they understand what to expect, and if prescribed an opioid, how to safely dispose of unused medication to ensure it is not illegally diverted, and to prepare them to help if a loved one is struggling with addiction or take action in case of an overdose.

The Opioid Hub hosts education for a broad range of HCPs with activities providing credit for physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and pharmacists. "We are excited to share very practical strategies for responsible prescribing for patients in pain, including the new Orthopedic Trauma Association guidelines for acute pain and protocols from the Department or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at VCU for pain management following dental extractions to help clinicians make changes to their own practice protocols for pain management to minimize the use of opioids," stated Shari Tordoff, Managing Partner of CME Outfitters.

To view the extensive library of activities, exclusive expert interviews, and free downloadable resources to educate HCPs and patients alike on the appropriate treatment of acute and chronic pain, visit the Hub today.
