Sony Electronics Inc. to Receive Champion of Youth Honor at Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Annual Pacific Military Youth of the Year Celebration in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, March 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Boys & Girls Clubs of America is proud to announce that this year Sony Electronics Inc. will receive the Champion of Youth award at the 2019 Pacific Military Youth of the Year celebration this summer. The event will take place on July 11 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla in San Diego.

Sony has championed the Pacific Military Youth of the Year event since its inception. It is through their efforts that this celebration has become a signature event in the region. Sony's commitment to Boys & Girls Clubs of America traces back to 2012 as the sole sponsor of Boys & Girls Clubs of America's ImageMakers National Photography Program and Contest. More than 20,000 club youth participate annually, and Boys & Girls Clubs of America is proud to have Sony as a partner in technology-assisted creativity and career exploration. The skills learned through the ImageMakers Photography Program make youth more expressive, as well as more competitive in both career and educational endeavors.

In addition to the ImageMakers program, the company's leadership is heavily engaged on the board and trustee level. Last year, Sony Electronics President & COO Mike Fasulo chaired Boys & Girls Clubs of America's 112(th) National Conference in San Diego and will serve as a co-chair in this year's Pacific Military Youth of the Year celebration.

"We are truly honored to receive this award from Boys & Girls Clubs of America," states Fasulo. "Commitment to serving our communities has always been part of Sony's culture. Youth from military families are confronted with challenges above and beyond the norm. With family members often on deployment, they sacrifice their time together to protect this country's freedom. The Pacific Region, and specifically southern California, represents the largest collective of military bases and military youth. Sony is proud to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to support these talented kids in advancing their education."

Military Youth of the Year is a component of Boys & Girls Clubs of America's National Youth of the Year program, presented by Disney and Toyota as the signature sponsor. The winner of the 2019 Pacific Military Youth of the Year will go on to Washington, D.C. in August to compete with other regional Military Youth of the Year finalists for the 2019 National Military Youth of the Year title. The winner receives a $20,000 scholarship and will serve as Boys & Girls Clubs of America's official advocate for military youth across the country and abroad.

This year's media sponsor is San Diego Magazine, a lifestyle publication featuring the best of San Diego.
