New Survey by DesignRush.com Reveals eCommerce Businesses Have a Hard Time Managing Social Media

NEW YORK, April 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Despite widespread familiarity with social media, many businesses find marketing themselves on social platforms a challenge.

According to a recent survey, one-third of eCommerce businesses find social media more difficult to manage than any other marketing channel, including SEO, PPC, email, and offline advertising.

DesignRush.com, a B2B marketplace that connects brands with leading digital agencies, conducted a survey of over 150 eCommerce businesses to learn about the marketing channels they used.

Respondents were asked about which channel gave them the highest ROI, where they invest the most marketing dollars, and where they experience the most difficulty when it comes to marketing channel management.

Social media took the top spot in all three of these categories.

Why is Social Media Marketing So Difficult?

The low costs and high ROI of social media marketing make it an irresistible channel for businesses looking for growth. That said, social platforms require consistent engagement in order to be used effectively.

Since the ad targeting of social media is so precise, creating the right custom audiences on an ad campaign can prove to be a major challenge for many businesses.

In addition, the daily posting of content and interacting with other users on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other popular platforms, demands significant time and energy.

This may explain with two-thirds of businesses surveyed partnered with a marketing agency of some kind, primarily with social media agencies.

Not All Businesses Struggle with Social Media

Although social media was reported as the most difficult channel to manage over any other channel, many businesses (43%) stated it was the easiest for them.

The fact that 75% of all eCommerce businesses said that social media is either the easiest or the most difficult marketing channel to deal with highlights a strong polarization within social media management.

To some companies, social media is a natural part of their business model, and managing their social sites is an integral part of the work day.

Other businesses, struggling to stay visible on social media, have to seek out solutions for their management challenges.

Agencies as a Social Media Solution

It's becoming increasing popular to share social login credentials with a marketing agency.

Over 46% of businesses surveyed plan on having an agency manage their social media in 2019, up 2% from 2018.

Even those that find social media easy to manage often work with marketing agencies to boost their online footprint and strengthen their connections customers.

All in all, this study found that social media agencies are worth looking into for eCommerce businesses, whether or not they have a hard time with the channel.
