NuVision Credit Union Sponsors Vietnam Memorial Exhibit

NuVision, a trusted credit union with over 80 years of serving the residents of Southern California, was a proud sponsor of The Wall That Heals which was featured in Costa Mesa, Calif., at Balearic/Estancia Park from April 11-14, 2019. The Wall That Heals is a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and it also brings a mobile Education Center to help visitors learn more about this important exhibit.

The replica stands 375 feet high and contains more than 58,000 names of soldiers who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) organized the exhibition and the Freedom Committee of Orange County offered docents to answer questions and talk about this turbulent time in America’s history. The Wall That Heals was available for viewing 24 hours a day to all Southern California residents while in Costa Mesa, and included an Honor Ceremony on Saturday, April 13, and a Closing Ceremony on Sunday, April 14.

NuVision was pleased to be a local sponsor of the event, with funds contributing to the costs of the exhibit including staffing and other necessities such as meals, snacks and beverages for volunteers, rental of chairs, tables, portable heaters, as well as military fly-overs and a bagpiper at the opening and closing ceremonies.

“We were so pleased to have been able to contribute to this important and educational exhibit for the community,” said NuVision Vice President of Marketing Tom Sweet. “The Wall That Heals is an incredible memorial that honors the memories of our fallen soldiers and contributes to the healing and education around darker times from U.S. history.”

Featured speakers included Vietnam veterans retired Maj. Gen William J. Mall, USAF, and retired Sgt. Frank Orzio, USMC, Purple Heart recipient. There were approximately 250 visitors throughout the four-day memorial. Digital photos of “Hometown Heroes,” service members whose names are on the wall and were from the Orange County area, were a touching tribute to local families who lost loved ones in service. This will be the first time that the wall was hosted by Costa Mesa, and it’s been a decade since The Wall That Heals was last in Orange County when it was hosted in Newport Beach, Calif.
