Upward Labs Announces Inaugural Aged Care and Smart Building Cohort

ROCKY HILL, Conn., April 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Upward Labs and Connecticut Innovations (CI) today announced the participating startups in Upward Labs' inaugural aged care and smart building cohort in Hartford, Connecticut, starting in May 2019. Upward Labs, a first-of-its-kind piloting program, has recruited startup companies from across the globe to pilot their technologies in partnership with Connecticut companies over a six-month period. The startups, which will be co-working and co-living in downtown Hartford, will pilot their technologies under the purview and guidance of the Labs' 27 corporate partners. The participating companies are as follows:

Algorithmic Intuition (California) develops and licenses advanced software platforms for wearable products. Using advanced algorithms, its device teaches people to understand their needs, detects self-care activities and falls, and monitors vitals.

AJI Digital (France) makes interactive walls accessible to anyone, through content management to easily adaptable hardware. Its app allows users to transfer video to its platform and to manage theme-facilitating activity and creativity for any business.

BEAD Technology (Germany) uses real-time data and AI to convert buildings into intelligent buildings without human-led operation. Its smart building solutions connect directly to tenants, offering insights on weather forecasts, energy-saving actions and more.

Cloudastructure (California) offers video surveillance and access control for residential security and employee access to commercial buildings. Its cloud software can be used on any computer vision (AI) or machine-learning resource to handle tasks once completed by human workers.

Nonnatech (New York) enables home healthcare organizations and senior living communities to provide real-time, actionable information to refine provision of resources and detect health issues early.

Nouslogic (California) provides a wireless hardware/software IoT platform with sensors that aggregate data to offer real-time intelligence insights on the "4 W's" (Who, What, Where, When) to establish security for both residential and commercial property owners.

WizeCare (Israel) offers a platform that seamlessly transfers physical therapy sessions to the patient's home. The platform increases both patient compliance, shortening recovery time, and patients' engagement and monitoring, reducing readmission rates.

Xandar Kardian (South Korea) offers a technology with multiple uses in aged care and smart buildings. Its IR-UWB and FMCW radar signal processing provides 100 percent true presence detection, vital sign monitoring and people counting, with four times more coverage than cameras.

On April 9 and 10, 2019, the participating startups conducted their first meetings with the 27 corporate partners to design their pilot programs, which will begin on May 1, 2019. Each startup will come to "live, work and play" in Hartford, Connecticut, from May through October 2019.

Co-founder of Xandar Kardian Sam Yang spoke highly of his involvement in Upward Labs, stating: "This program was laser-focused for us. I did not anticipate working with so many companies at once. This program accelerates everything: within six months we are fast-forwarding almost two years of business development."

COO and co-founder of WizeCare Shai David echoed Yang's sentiment: "In six months, we will be moving from pilots to commercialization."

"Upward Labs presents a unique opportunity for Connecticut Innovations to learn about startups in two fast-changing markets," said Phil Siuta, chief financial officer of Connecticut Innovations. "The company founders will be working with and living nearby large Connecticut corporations that plan to adopt those new technologies supporting their product roadmap. This program sets up a nice win-win-win and is a model for how public-private partnerships can drive innovation in the state."

"We are thrilled to have so many Connecticut giants participate and lend their time and expertise to help these incredible startups from around the world," added Shana Schlossberg, CEO and founder of Upward. "In their initial meetings, the startups were blown away by the potential they see in Hartford, and over the next six months, Upward Labs will work with the startups to realize this potential."

Upward Labs has already accepting applications for its fall 2019 cohort. Applications can be submitted at https://www.moveupward.city/labs.
