StorageOS Operator Achieves Red Hat Certification

BOSTON, May 8, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- StorageOS, a leading provider of software-defined, persistent storage for containers, today announced it is one of the first companies to achieve Red Hat OpenShift Operator Certification. The StorageOS Operator allows one-click installation and on-going management of its cloud native storage solution, enabling organizations to maximize their investment in Red Hat OpenShift.

Red Hat OpenShift Certified Operators provide an enhanced Day 1 and Day 2 management experience for modern applications. Operators automate common administration tasks to increase productivity and reduce unplanned downtime that could be caused by human error.

The StorageOS Operator creates and manages a storage cluster across an OpenShift deployment, transforming local or attached storage capacity into enterprise-class, persistent storage for applications running in containers. StorageOS is built from the bottom up with no legacy restrictions. It is designed to help customers save on infrastructure software and hardware costs, improve application agility and operational efficiency and respond to business change more quickly.

Chris Brandon, CEO of StorageOS said, "StorageOS offers customers a persistent storage solution to help maximize their investment in Red Hat and OpenShift. With the OpenShift Operator certification, customers can more easily access StorageOS persistent storage for deploying databases, message queues, and other mission-critical stateful solutions, where rapid recovery and fault tolerance are essential."

The latest version of StorageOS v1.2 includes several new features that improve security and performance and enable rapid failover of Kubernetes workloads.

-- Rapid Failover - Kubernetes node failure detection is highly
conservative and will only begin re-scheduling pods after a node has
been offline for 5 minutes. Additionally, for stateful workloads
deployed as a StatefulSet, manual intervention is required to failover
to another node. StorageOS Rapid Failover uses a gossip protocol to
detect node failure within 30 seconds and then automates recovery
        actions without administrator intervention.
-- Security - StorageOS delivers encryption at rest by encrypting volumes.
It uses the industry standard AES symmetric encryption algorithm. Keys
        are stored as Kubernetes Secrets.
-- Performance improvements - Lower and more deterministic latency, higher
throughput, and less impact on system resources.
