Global Manufacturing at Harkness Screens - a First in China

BEIJING, May 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- This week, Harkness Screens produced a new screen technology within its China Manufacturing facility. The screen, code named "XW" took nearly 48 hours to produce. The new thin film coating is a first for Harkness and a first in China. This new technology has the potential to re-define how cinema screens are managed in China.

This historic screen will be deployed in the next few weeks to support Premium Large Format expansion in China. Harkness Screens, Andrew Emmott was clear "the Chinese market for premium format is growing, cinema screens need to guarantee image quality and not quickly deteriorate in performance. I believe this screen technology will assist in deploying premium format."

The production of the screen was a combined effort from the local Chinese manufacturing team and global experts from the UK and the USA. The facility itself, was completed in October 2016. Today, Harkness have 5 manufacturing facilities globally. Commenting on this footprint, Harkness Chief Manufacturing Officer, David Burlinson stated "our strategy has always been to be in close proximity to our customers, allowing us to reduce lead times and transit times"

In the period 2012 and 2018, Harkness Screens have built 4 new factories in France, India, China and the USA. The factories utilise the same in-house formulated raw materials to guarantee product consistency. New technologies and products are developed at Harkness' UK Technology Centre before being deployed across all factories.

The network offers an in built contingency recognised as a huge benefit." Emmott went on to say "our global capacity allows us to support our customers as they embark on rapid deployment of new formats and new markets."
