ESquared Held Inaugural High School Esports Tournament
MINNEAPOLIS, June 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The weekend of June 1st-2nd, ESquared, an esports company specializing in producing esports events and content, held an inaugural high school esports tournament sponsored by X Rocker, Zubaz, and Jack Link's in Minneapolis with participating teams from eight Minnesota high schools. Also in attendance at the tournament were professional athletes, college recruiters, and families of the players, supporting the growth of electronic sports and the first local esports tournament featuring high school teams.
Competing for the first-place prize, players participated in tournaments of the following esports games: League of Legends, Fortnite, Overwatch, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Taking home the first place trophies for League of Legends and Overwatch were Wayzata Gold. The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Fortnite tournament champions represented Washington Tech Magnet, and rounding out the tournament, the team from St. Louis Park took home the first-place prize for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
The success of the tournament marks a new era of esports gaming in the Midwest by encouraging the development of competitive online gaming for high school players and providing them an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a competitive setting.
