Grand Opening of Oxford Performance Materials' Manufacturing and Office Facility in Japan Set for July 16th in Tokyo

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn., July 10, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Oxford Performance Materials, a pioneer in advanced materials science and high-performance additive manufacturing (HPAM®), is pleased to announce the upcoming July 16th grand opening of the OPM Japan additive manufacturing and office facilities in Tokyo. OPM Japan (or "OPMJ"), a subsidiary of the privately held Connecticut-based Oxford Performance Materials, was established in May 2018 to advance OPM's poly-ether-ketone-ketone (PEKK)-based 3D-printed orthopedic devices and biomedical & dental materials businesses throughout Asia.

OPMJ has been granted an exclusive regional license to OPM's OXPEKK® materials and OsteoFab® 3D printing technologies as well as patented medical application technologies for the Asian territory.

The OPMJ facility is located in Tokyo in convenient proximity to Haneda airport. The world class 6,500 sq. ft. Asian headquarters was custom built for the production of 3D-printed biomedical implants and distribution of biomedical polymers. The facility also has an extensive materials science laboratory to support research and development, quality, and regulatory activities. To start the new enterprise, OPM has transferred key operational and technical teams to Japan and has recently completed extensive training for OPMJ's new Japanese hires at its South Windsor, CT headquarters.

JSR Corporation, a leading materials supplier in a variety of technology driven markets, had identified OPM as a leader in materials science and biomedical additive manufacturing, and provided a major strategic investment in the establishment of OPMJ. JSR's position in OPM Japan furthers its growing activities in the medical field in Japan and worldwide. OPMJ also benefits from JSR's partnership with the renowned Keio University School of Medicine, which brings together Keio medical researchers and JSR research chemists in biomedical research collaboration.

OPMJ is focusing on the introduction of three products for the Japanese market in the near term. OPMJ products are already cleared for commercial sales in the growing implantable denture and bridge applications market. The subsidiary's next product introduction is anticipated to be OsteoFab patient-specific 3D printed craniomaxillofacial (CMF) medical implants. OsteoFab is the state-of-the-art biomedical implant technology for demanding reconstruction due to bone loss from trauma or disease. These products are distributed worldwide by Zimmer Biomet, a world leading orthopedic OEM. Finally, OPM anticipates introducing a 3D printed spinal product line into the Japanese and Asian markets, again utilizing the award-winning OsteoFab technology that has helped drive rapid gains in market share in the U.S.

"I am very pleased that our OPM Japan team has successfully brought this world class facility online - in record time and on budget - to support the dynamic Japanese and Asian orthopedic and medical and dental device industries. Our partners at JSR were tremendously helpful as we navigated a complex new environment, and we look forward to deepening what has already proven to be a highly productive collaboration," said Scott DeFelice, CEO of Oxford Performance Materials and OPM Japan.

"OPM has truly unique and enabling materials, process and application technologies that have been demonstrated to improve patient wellbeing and improve healthcare treatment," said JSR's Representative Director, COO, Nobuo Kawahashi. "Japan has a unique and growing population that requires the types of devices and treatment options that OPM's technologies enables, both in the medical and dental fields. We are pleased to have partnered with OPM, and are now excited to witness the opening this incredible new facility and advance our collaboration."
