GoKid Announces School Carpool Pilot Rollout in Michigan

NEW YORK, Aug. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- GoKid today announced that it is the recipient of the Michigan-based PlanetM Mobility Grant. GoKid is excited to bring its family mobility solution to Michigan. Chosen as one of six startup companies to receive the grant, the company will be using the grant money to run a shared-transportation pilot at schools throughout the state and report on the results by measuring key usage statistics at each school.

Through the pilot, GoKid aims to help improve school attendance, lower tardiness and reduce traffic and congestion in front of schools by enabling parents to easily set up carpools. For the 2019/2020 school year, GoKid will offer the full carpool solution at a highly discounted rate to all schools and school districts in Michigan. An initial set of schools has been selected for the rollout, but GoKid is currently accepting additional applications from interested schools and districts.

"We are honored to receive the PlanetM grant. Having participated in the Techstars Mobility program in Detroit, we are we are especially proud that Michigan will add another milestone to the GoKid success story. When Michigan's schools and communities save time and money with GoKid, we all win and the grant enables us to kick off a statewide implementation of our award winning solution," says GoKid co-founder and CEO Stefanie Lemcke.

GoKid's shared carpool organizing technology is available as a mobile app for parents to set up carpool schedules, invite other families they know and trust, and share the driving responsibilities. The app includes route mapping, automatic reminders, and calendar syncing. The GoKid Connect platform, which is an add-on to the app, allows schools to provide their families with a secure portal to locate potential carpool partners within school so they can then set up rides in the app.

To achieve the aim of the pilot, GoKid will be working with each school to identify key challenges that transportation has posed for their school and will be monitoring progress made through the shared-mobility solution. At the end of the program, GoKid will share all findings and best practice learnings in a report with the partner schools.
