SAO PAULO, Aug. 12, 2019 -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has opened its first aviation service center in Latin America in São José dos Campos, a city located 94 km from the state capital. On site, the company will offer services such as aircraft parts replacement, repair and overhaul.

“The new Honeywell Service and Maintenance Center is one of the few places prepared to offer specialized support to companies in the industry, including the executive, commercial, defense and general aviation segments,” said Laurent Memvielle, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Aerospace Latin America. “This launch is an important step toward the expansion of the company's operations in Brazil, where we aim to develop more facilities and meet our customers' demands quickly and efficiently.”

São José dos Campos was chosen for its history in the aviation market and the proximity of Embraer and the city of São Paulo, besides other urban centers in the southeast region where the main airlines in the country are located. The Service and Maintenance Center is in a 500m² area in the Technological Park of São José dos Campos.

Aerospace is one of Honeywell’s four business units and has been responsible for aviation innovations such as the first autopilot flight control and the first commercial weather radar system. In total, the company’s portfolio has 84 product lines that focus on creating more economical, practical and environmentally friendly airplanes.

Brazilian aviation market is growing

In a meeting held with investors at the Spanish embassy in early June, Infrastructure Minister Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas commented on the strong growth potential of the domestic market. He stressed that Brazil, today the sixth-largest aviation market in the world, could grow to become the third largest.

According to data from the Air Transport Demand and Supply report, released by Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency, in January this year more than 103 million passengers were carried on domestic flights by Brazilian airlines in 2018, 4.1% more than the previous year.

Regarding the international market, the same document shows in 2018, the number of passengers flying on Brazilian airlines with international destinations increased by 11.9% from 2017.The Brazilian Airlines Association points out that this growth in domestic demand and passenger volume has been recorded for 26 consecutive months (May 2019 data).
