ESO Releases 2019 ESO Fire Trends Report to Explore Key Trends Affecting Fire Departments Across the Country

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 14, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ESO, the leading data and software company serving emergency medical services (EMS), fire departments and hospitals, today announced the findings of its 2019 ESO Fire Trends Report. The Report looks at key trends across fire departments nationwide, including the number of EMS calls versus fire-related calls, first apparatus turnout time and travel time, the most common property types visited and estimated property loss, as well as most common types of responses. Data used for the Report are from January 1, 2019 through June 30, 2019 and come from ESO's systems.

"The report provides valuable insight into what departments are responding to and how they are responding," said Shelley Koegler, Vice President of Fire Division for ESO. "Not surprisingly, we see EMS calls outpace fire-related calls by a significant margin. We also see a greater need for documentation around property loss to provide more accurate analysis and insights. We've also added a section that digs into the most common types of calls for fire departments. The purpose of this report is to help departments across the country take a close look at how they are performing in comparison to the nationwide numbers."
Key Findings Include: 

    --  Fire departments, by and large, respond to more EMS calls than Fire
        calls: Based on our data, we see that EMS calls accounted for more than
        70 percent of all calls.
    --  Outside of EMS calls, the most common incident types include: 1)
        Dispatched and canceled en route, 2) Assist invalid, 3) No incident
        found and 4) false alarm.
    --  First apparatus turnout time and travel time look positive: On average,
        first apparatus turnout time was clocking in at 1 minute and 11 seconds,
        while average travel time was 4 minutes and 48 seconds.
    --  Family dwellings are the most common property type among fire incidents:
        one or two-family dwelling structures accounted for 35 percent of all
        call locations, while multifamily dwelling properties accounted for 11
        percent of all call locations.
    --  In aggregate, one or two-family dwellings represented the largest
        financial loss in fire incidents; however, property loss is
        under-documented: One or two-family dwellings represented more than $57M
        in total property loss.
