The reason for this is not just to take advantage of the above offer, but also due to the impending Illinois "trade-in tax" that will comparatively increase the amount buyers are taxed on their purchase of a new vehicle when they trade in their old.

Currently, shoppers are only taxed on the difference of the price of their new vehicle minus the value of their trade-in. Under the new Illinois law, however, buyers will be taxed on the full price of the new vehicle minus only up to $10,000 of tax-free credit. The basic result is that Illinois trade-ins are worth more in 2019 than they will be in 2020. The added tax could cost buyers thousands of dollars extra.
