Every Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Ninth Grader To Receive Energy Education Experience At Michigan Science Center Thanks To Aramco Americas

DETROIT, Feb. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Energy is critical to our planet and its people. At 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 the Michigan Science Center (MiSci), Aramco Americas and DPSCD will launch a comprehensive energy education experience at MiSci to enhance every DPSCD ninth-grader's understanding of this important topic. DPSCD Executive Director of K-12 Science Kristie Ford, Aramco Director Ghaithan Muntasheri, and MiSci CEO Christian Greer will share details on the creation of this collaborative project.

The Aramco iExplore: Energy Program, a recognized best outreach program, has a two-part approach:

1) Teachers attend a one-day workshop at MiSci to learn about the field trip program, receive materials for their classrooms and meet Aramco engineers and scientists;

2) Over 4,000 DPSCD ninth graders will visit MiSci on a field trip during February and March 2020, where they will enjoy interactive exhibits and experience live science stage shows designed to get them excited about energy-related ideas, careers, and enhance their in-class learning.

iExplore was developed in partnership with Aramco Americas, DPSCD, and CREATE for STEM Institute at Michigan State University. Joining DPSCD on their 2-year journey to shift classroom instruction toward the Next Generation Science Standards, the partners sought the feedback of the students and teachers in DPSCD to develop this learning experience. This is the first time in MiSci history in which a program is developed and specifically tailored to high school students and their curriculum.

"We are thankful for the opportunity to create a life-changing experience for thousands of students and are thrilled for the chance to collaborate with DPSCD teachers at such a close level," said Christian Greer, president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center. "Aramco's support, combined with education from MiSci, will not only make STEM education more accessible, but also shine a light on career pathways for our future workforce."

The field trips are provided to students and their schools through Aramco's generous support. Aramco expertise gives educators insight and real-world connections to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Students can explore possible careers as they interact with STEM role models like Aramco scientists and engineers.

"As a company, we value the role of technology in positively affecting society and human development. We are very pleased to be part of giving Detroit schoolchildren the opportunity to experience STEM subjects with the Michigan Science Center," said Alma Kombargi, Director of Brand Strategy, Aramco Americas.
