Avoid OSHA Penalties by Training and Certifying as Crane Operators in Las Vegas

ORLANDO, Fla. and HOUSTON, Feb. 20, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In FY 2019, OSHA handed out more than $211 million in penalties, following a record number of inspections in the Trump-administration era. Unprogrammed inspections from 2016-2018 averaged 57% of total inspections, indicating "that OSHA continues to devote considerable resources responding to referrals and complaints". Nevertheless, OSHA's FY 2018 summary showed 941 fatality or catastrophe investigations, the most since 2007.

Violations of OSHA's 1926 Subpart C, Safety and Health Regulations for Construction, accounted for nearly 10% of all penalties. The regulation mandates employers offer safety training and education "in the recognition, avoidance and prevention of unsafe conditions".

The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) continues to offer the certification necessary to ensure all crane operators, riggers, signalpersons, lift directors and inspectors are adequately prepared to meet the safety and training requirements in their industry.

This March at CONEXPO 2020, the NCCCO is offering written exams for certification and recertification, as well as practical exams for Fixed and Swing Cab Mobile Cranes, Articulating Boom Cranes, Rigger I and II and Signalperson. All scoring will be done onsite in Las Vegas, allowing candidates to visit CONEXPO and leave certified.

To aid those taking their NCCCO exams in Las Vegas, Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB) will be offering preparatory training classes for operators of Mobile and Articulating Boom Cranes, immediately prior to CONEXPO.

"As a contribution to safety in the crane and lifting industry", said Craig Epperson, CEO, "CICB continues to fully endorse the national certification programs offered by NCCCO by providing quality training to prepare candidates."

The training will be offered in Las Vegas on March 8th and 9th, before the convention begins on March 10th. Examinees have the option to take their written tests on the morning of Tuesday March 10th or Friday March 13th, with practical exams scheduled for Wednesday-Friday.

CONEXPO is the largest construction trade show in North America, with approximately 130,000 people expected to gather in Las Vegas from March 10th-14th.
