German Army awards Theon Deutschland GmbH with the delivery of image intensifier clip-ons for wide and medium-range for use on various small arms

Kempen, February 25, 2020. In the last quarter of 2019 the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) awarded Theon Deutschland GmbH with the delivery of monocular image intensifier (I²) clip-ons for wide and medium-range type DAMON. The order comprises a total of just under 1,500 devices.

The afocal I² clip-ons will be delivered in two different set configurations. The devices will be supplied to the German Armed Forces from 2020 onwards with both variants to be used across different army branches as well as across a wide range of small arms, from assault rifles to rocket-propelled grenade launchers, as well as machine guns and sniper rifles.

Philippe Mennicken, Managing Director of Theon Deutschland GmbH: "I am happy that we have been awarded the contract for the I² clip-ons after the successful German projects "Vehicle Drivers’ Binoculars" and "Special Operation Forces Binoculars".

Thus, THEON SENSORS has won the last three Bundeswehr tenders in the field of I² devices." Heiko Schmidt, Business Development Director of Theon Deutschland GmbH emphasizes: “For Theon Deutschland GmbH it is a great success to win the first contract in the very first year of its existence.”

This tender was the first one in which THEON SENSORS participated via its Theon Deutschland GmbH subsidiary, which was founded in spring 2019. Thus, the company improved its customer service further through the geographical proximity to the customer and the establishment of a service capability in Germany.

The new order by the German Army highlights once more the strategic importance of Europe for THEON SENSORS. The DAMON family consists of two different variants, DAMON medium range (MR) and DAMON long range (LR).

The afocal image intensifier clip-on with 1x magnification is installed in front of a daylight scope, thus adding a night fight capability, while the operator keeps using his well-known day optics and reticle. Alignment of the I² device is not necessary. The device is simple to mount via a Picatinny interface on any STANAG 4694 compatible rail.

DAMON itself features an optional Picatinny rail, which allows the attachment of other accessories, such as laser pointers, (IR) illuminators or red dot sights.

DAMON is in service in several European and numerous non-European countries worldwide. THEON SENSORS is a world-renowned and recognized manufacturer of electro-optical night vision systems used by military and law enforcement customers in more than 50 countries around the world.

The development and production of the systems is made in Athens, Greece, whereas its worldwide business activities are supported by now three subsidiaries, in Germany, Abu Dhabi and Singapore, with co-productions facilities in Middle and Far East. THEON SENSORS is part of EFA Group of  companies that have a leading-edge position in the international markets in the fields of aerospace, security, defense and industrial cooperation. www.theon.com
